  • Descaling solution still in water after descaling em6910

Ive just descaled my em6910 for the first time after about 1 month of use. I ran the full 3 litres of fresh water through but the water still looked sudsey, so I kept running through water now I guess Ive gone through another 3 litres atleast and it still looks sudsy. Im wondering if its just my water or do I need to put more water through it?

Hi CaffieneHit and welcome to CS!

Thats a lot of water! There are lots of 6910 users who may be able to help, though in the meantime, can you tell us what descaler you used, and if youve tried tasting the water, did it taste sudsy too?

Am sure help is on its way!

Re: Descaling solution still in water after descaling

Hi, thanks for the welcome. I used the Sunbeam Kettle and Coffee machine descaler liquid, I did taste the water and no bad taste jumped out at me. I only ever used Viniger in water with my old machine.

Looking at the Sunbeam website the tablets specifically say for espresso machines and the Kettle and Coffee Machine Descaler isnt that specific.
Id be ringing Sunbeam for advice.

The  descaler liquid is listed in the manual and Im sure I saw it on the sunbeam website, its ref/id code is ke0100.

Im using tank water as I thought that better than tap water loaded with chlorine and fluride, but for a test I ran some tap water through and it didnt look sudsy on top but still looked mirky and then cleared up. I wonder if it has always been not quiute right, something to do with hardness or softness of water or maybe contaminants in the tank water. After I let the water stand for maybe 30-40 seconds it clears.

Im going to make a coffee now and see how it goes. Im starting to get a low caffeine headache

You may have answered your own question. I dont think any machine manufacturer would recommend tank water, particularly as the mineral content and other contaminant levels could be quite high.

Given the amount of air pollution we see these days, I think the days when tank water might have been cleaner are long gone.

If youre concerned by chlorine and flouride, you would be best off to either instal a filtration system or use a brita jug as a minimum.

              Cheers!

Given the sudsy look Im going to go the other way from Dennis and say the tank water is probably too soft (although it may also have non-mineral contaminants). Try mixing tank and tap water 50/50 and see how you go.

If the milky look settles out of the water it is probably just air in the water bubbling out as it is heated.

                How does the coffee taste?

Happy to defer to you Greg - I preferred biology to geology (?) while at school. ;D

Im a newbie, so grain of salt time OK.
I have noticed this phenomina after descaling when flushing with cool water Not giving the boiler time to heat.
the machine should be well flushed by now.
Have you tried letting the boiler run up to temp then pumping into a clean clear glass with your fingers crossed?

                    Kind Regards
                    Lindsay

PS If this doesnt satisfy you have a coffee, take 2 paracetamol tabs and revisit it after a good sleep.

Hmm, any contaminants should only be dirt/dust, small bits of leaves but this all settles to the bottom after maybe a week. I live in country Vic. so we dont get much air pollution. Ive had a few coffees now and they taste good to me. The machine is always heated to operating temp before it will work. I might try bottled water. Thanks guys for your help in the matter.

According to the authorities (and my taste buds agree) very high quality rain water is too soft for the best coffee. Some mineral content helps the taste.

A search here will show several threads on water quality and how to get the optimum mineral content.

Note also that very soft water can take longer to rinse out detergents.

Correct; I missed that in the manual (page 32).
