Id agree with every comment on this thread. Theres a comparo of the Silvia and Em6910 at www.coffeetamper.com.au/**/reviews/sunbeam-silvia/ if you havent seen it yet, may assist with your choice (or that of anyone else reading this thread).

    I also agree...

But I must add, that many times bad press has been provided by users that have in fact been the main cause of teh problems... Be it by use or misunderstanding of what they expected, to what they got.

This goes for all products and not just the two mentioned here.

Hi Deano, I had my Sylvia for 10 wonderful years and then resold her for 68% of my purchase price.
if only i could find an affordable car that did that...

resale helped even the playing field for my choice, as Ill be offloading my machine within 3 years of the purchase and will get something back, rather than possibly not having it last 2 years. I also wanted something capable of making a great coffee, not just a good coffee for a home machine. The silvia hasnt disappointed. Youll want to make your grinder stepless (if you havent already) to get the most out of the silvia as it is responsive to small changes in grind levels, but the EM0480 is certainly capable of grinding for it. I upgraded to a mazzer, with resale helping once again, as I wanted a doser. I think you know what you want to get, dont let the aesthetics of the sunbeam sway you! And be prepared to follow a good routine with the silvia to ensure it stays clean and working (although really, this is true of all machines)
