Hi all,
Recently, when locking my Silvia portafilter into the group head, Ive noticed that I cant turn the portafilter nearly as far as I used to without forcing. It seems to lock well before the handle is perpendicular from the face of the machine, whereas I used to need to turn it past perpendicular to lock it. This happens even with an empty basket.
Its not causing any problems at the moment (am still pulling reasonable shots just fine without any leaks) but Im just wondering what might have caused this. FYI - Ive been fairly fanatical in cleaning the shower screen/group seal with a group head brush after every shot and am regulatlry backflushing with a blind filter, so build up of grinds shouldnt be a problem.
Im a firm believe in the if it aint broke, dont fix it mentality. But my question is: is it broke?

5¢ coin on the puck, dry the screen, and lock the handle. Unlock and remove. The 5¢ should leave a slight impression in the coffee--not be buried flush. On the Silvia, with the screw in the centre you may have to put the coin off-centre.
