Well, Im sold. Talking with Chris from Talk Coffee and hopefully about to become a proud owner of a Sylvia. Im pairing it with an EM0450 and will play around for a bit before I take a course. Thanks Chris and all you CS folks who have offered up info on the Sylvia. I know its gonna take some getting used to but Im looking forward to it. Regards.

If I get home before midnight from roasting, I *might* check my PMs. :

Glad you put it to bed at last

Not sure the coffee taste changes in proportion to the sound 8-)

Im sure youll get a lot of good coffee from the Rancilio setup, I know I did.

I looked into the Sunbeam and it looks nice and it has some very good features but my god it sounds bad..I dont care if its reliable or not, the sound put me off.

I like the solid feel of the Silvia and Rocky, the chunky switches and nice heft to the group handle (portafilter in the USA) and I love the functional looks...but most of all I like the compliments I get from friends and family on my coffee.

Those who "upgrade" from Silvia to 6910 isnt too common your right CYV that is for a reason.

Hi cyv there isnt a lot of second hand Silvias due to their popularity and quality. The choice is ultimatley urs... Both make coffees, but like a BMW and a commodore but are cars and drive but one is far better quality, will last longer and and resale for more.
Go to a sponsor and talk with them and try it, and go to Myers and try it and then make ur decision. Ultimatley the choice is up to u.

Enjoy the espresso journey!! ;D ;D

Hate to say it Rusty, but I very much doubt that. There are many owners on Sunbeam 2,3,4 and 5 but no owners on Silvia #5.
    Hi Chris,

I must be under caffeinated ;D

Of course I meant to say the opposite - Silvia is built like a tank and will outlast the Sunbeam by quite some years

Yes, I do expect it (the 6910) to outlast the Silvia and to have a greater resale value. But the bottom line should be about producing enjoyable coffee

Although the Sumbeam may have more features, its an appliance and will eventually fail and require costly repair. On the other hand, there are original Silvias still kicking.

Also, Im yet to have a great espresso from a Sunbeam. I have from a Silvia.

Lastly, I suspect that we may the Melbourne site mentioned, given that both members have been in contact for P&A

Thats why Im looking at one if my Ruddbucks come thru. Got a quote from a sponsor tonight. The info on this site has been very helpful in me reaching this decision. $740 for a 2008 machine with heaps of extras thrown in. Regards.
Dont forget youll need a good grinder as well... Otherwise your Miss Silvia will become Mrs. Grumpy Silvia.
