Re: Smaller filter basket for Gaggia Classic?

Youre right cuppacoffee. Saving coffee is not really an issue as I am happy with the result using the 20 gms, it is just that I was thinking if the Sylvia (basket with ridge) can use 4 grams less beans for a double shot with the same beans and get great results maybe I could too using a smaller basket. I now realise that the beans were ground a little coarser for the Classic (I used the same grind setting for first test on Sylvia) so that would have upped the volume in the Sylvia PF. I guess I am comparing apples with oranges!

    cheers

I always use 20 grams in my Classic to get the screw impression in the puck.
Wouldnt it be better if you always used 20gm because it gave you a lovely extraction?

I really dont get dosing by weight and have always dosed by volume. Perhaps I have the luxury as a roaster to have plenty of coffee at my disposal, but I dont think coffee is all that expensive. Certainly, 20gm from the same batch of coffee 10 days and 12 days apart will give you a different result in the cup. It becomes expensive when you compromise the flavour by scrimping on a few grams. It just seems like false economy.

Get a triple basket - cut it short - enjoy your coffee - die poor but happy! ;D

Smaller filter basket for Gaggia Classic?

I ground 20 grams of Harrar to try in my sons Sylvia. I always use 20 grams in my Classic to get the screw impression in the puck. This amount was way too much for the Sylvia basket even though my son updoses normally. So, I was thinking (might be dangerous), maybe if there was a slightly smaller basket to fit the Classic I would save coffee. But then again most likely affect taste. Does this make sense? :
