Re: About to buy this Rancilio combo...

I agree with all the suggestions here about getting your equipment from one of our sponsors.

If I had known about this site before I purchased my rocky and silvia combo I would have enquired where to get them from in Brisbane from one of our sponsors.

Instead I bought from a wholesale / retail place that really only knows about their own mass produced coffee blends...  and not much from retail help ... luckily I ended up with a quality product because I did my research before hand.

When I want to upgrade my equipment I will be using our people for sure! Cant beat good old fashioned service and knowledge from folks who do it for a living

Na it was just slack programming by the coder on the web page... Same option on a number of machines...
    Still not an excuse.
You know both you and I would check it before allowing it to go live.
    Because we care.
Ya... I agree.... Some things might slip by ie. special chars but to have the wrong options available on a machine; invites complaints... And dis - satisfaction!

    Hi,

I am about to order the Sylvia/rocky/base combo.

It is asking me if I would like a 53mm or 57.5 tamper? what size is the Sylvia?
    Run away,

Think carefully about this. The person selling you the machine doesnt know what size tamper you should use, even more so, its neither of the two you have been offered

A quick Melbourne update on the Silvia:

Silvia and Rocky stock are pretty much unavailable in Melbourne at present. I managed to scrounge an 09 and a couple of 09 Rocky doserless and paid almost full retail for the privilege of having them on the display bench

Supply has dried up completely and there will be no more until well into March by the look of things. I am unsure of the situation in other states. CSers who have Silvias and sell them to help fund an upgrade can expect top buck in the next month or so.

There are some internet vendors who normally sell the Silvia at near enough to wholesale cost and they are generally just interested in shifting boxes. More often than not, they offer no service facilities and they just hope their machines dont break. If/when they do break, we often get requests for service on their Silvias and we refer the owner back to their supplier for service on their machine.

I think its really important to consider both price and aftersales support. Its rare that you can have both- especially on these very low margin machines...

    End of sermon! :

    Chris

I have a budget of 1500, the Rancilio combo seems to be the best "bang for my buck" that I have found. I would rather not buy used. If anyone else has any suggestions of another kit that would be comparable, I am listening..
In that price range the Silvia/Rocky is your best option. There really isnt a direct competitor to this combo.

The Lelit Combi is a less expensive option which is well made but not from commercial components like the Silvia.  The results can be almost as good as the Silvia/Rocky.  The only other option is to spend ~$500 more on something like a VBM Piccolo or Diadema Perfetta....or spend $1000+ more on a HX.

Youve been asking for help over the last few days and this isnt the first time youve been pointed to the sponsors.

Yeah, I did not understand that you could send everyone an email via the sitesponsors@coffeesnobs.com.au, plus I was being lazy.

I have sent an email, hopefully everyone gets it.
If you have provided the right information, those sponsors that can - will reply... Those that are not in a position to; will just let it go through to the keeper.

Some of our comments may seem a bit harsh... But rules are rules and the relationship with the Sponsors is such that it works both ways...

Remember... Use the CS search function -read the stickies on all the topics... and most of ya questions will have already been answered.
