Hi, Im gonna get a silvia and was about to get the new 2009 model but I can get a slightly used 2008 model for about $200 cheaper, should I go with that or do people think the new model worth the extra bucks?
Thanks, Steve
Im a 2008 Silvia owner but, from what I understand, the 2009 Silvias are much the same. I remember reading somewhere that the differences are cosmetic only, with the exception of the steam wand (which on the 2009 silvia has a ball joint - allowing you to more easily change the position/angle of the wand - and a three holed nozzle - not sure of the significance of the nozzle). Query whether those features are worth the extra $200...
Im in the ballpark for a Silvia, 08 or 09 but am told that they are totally out of stock in Melbourne and most of the country. Also considering the options of a better second hand machine for the same price. I digress.
I found Chris from TalkCoffee good to have a chat about this. Like Squirell ive heard major difference is cosmetic and wand joint. Not sure which is better for longeivity, but will keep an eye on this post.
I would get the 08 and put the $200 towards a better grinder.
Im not a fan of the new look so thats just IMHO
The Silvia has been around relatively unchanged for a long time if the changes are cosmetic and not functional (other than steam wand) then I would get the 08
yep consmetic only, accept the ball jointed steam wand. Love the 08 model I have. pick up whatever you can get cause they are in massive short supply all over Aus!!
