Now it has suddenly broken again and those lovely people at Gaggia have told me it is 10 days out of warranty so TOUGH!

Can anyone suggest the most reliable brand/model around the 500-1000 dollar mark - similar specs to the Baby Twin? I was thinking maybe German would be more reliable? Not sure...
Thanks for any help!

A Gaggia Baby Twin wasnt a superauto last time I looked. :-?Originally posted by 0D2920202323190D29352B29460 link=1263955742/5#5 date=1263968655weaned off & move away from a Super Auto
Do you not think it fair and reasonable to expect a $750+ machine to continue working 10 days past its warranty period, and not to have had continuous problems throughout it life? If not, your expectations are lower than mine.Originally posted by 07282123340B27282721232B232832460 link=1263955742/6#6 date=1263970207FAIR and Reasonable use

Heres where this unit fails the test, and that may also be the view of Fair Trading. It wont hurt to ask them.Originally posted by 07282123340B27282721232B232832460 link=1263955742/6#6 date=1263970207and

cuppacoffee... ya suprise me... Picking on KK "person suggesting a machine based on what experience, I dont know" ;D
If its like the last half a dozen I have seen.... A quick question or two and a look will soon raise the issue of FAIR and Reasonable use.... Sorry its about a fair go, not absolute protection no matter what...
As the OP said...
How and in what manner did it break down ?purchased a Gaggia Baby twin 1 year and 10 days ago which continually broke down and was in general, a piece of cr*p. Made really nice coffee though!
Store bought beans as well ???
See users manual... Same for all machinesThe water has stopped flowing through the head - I called a coffee service centre who told me that if you dont use filtered water with Gaggias they block up - great! The service charge quote was half the cost of a new one so I am going to get another machine. Obviously not a Gaggia...
Nothing will be reliable if not treated correctly.. German or not... Actually... Not sure how many top end coffee machines are German... Come to think of it... Even a BMW will not last that long with no maintenance.. Opps Fair Trade complaint....Can anyone suggest the most reliable brand/model around the 500-1000 dollar mark - similar specs to the Baby Twin? I was thinking maybe German would be more reliable? Not sure...
Fair Trade Description:
XX needed a new watch. He had some money saved so he decided to buy an expensive watch that he hoped would last him a lifetime.
XX found a watch that he liked and paid $1800 for it. XX was concerned that the watch had only a one year warranty but, having done his research, he knew that no other shops or watch brands offered longer warranties.
XX’s watch worked perfectly for a year but, just after the warranty period expired, it stopped working. XX took it back to the shop but they refused to replace or repair it, saying that it was no longer under warranty.
What should XX do to try to get a refund or repair?
If XX believes the watch has failed through no fault of his own, he can argue that it has not reached a basic level of quality and performance given its price and purpose.
A: Thus Did the user contribute to the condition
and
B: A basic level of quality and performance given its price and purpose.
Published comments by the OP and an investigation review of said unit... Might well suggests that there may be any number of user issues that are involved; as to part A: that would not warrant the time or effort putting up a claim...
Bag me but not KK

Its time for pelliot to be weaned off & move away from a Super AutoOriginally posted by 7D6B6E6E7F7D7178787B7B1E0 link=1263955742/4#4 date=1263963796My, my, you pose a question and within 30 minutes have one person suggesting a machinebased on what experience, I dont know (although I concur), and another trying to get their hands on your poor little Gaggia that may only have a minor problem.Tisk, tisk.
A HX [heat exchanger] semi auto machine would also be a good step up
Depends on the budget

Hi pelliot and welcome to CS!
My, my, you pose a question and within 30 minutes have one person suggesting a machine based on what experience, I dont know (although I concur), and another trying to get their hands on your poor little Gaggia that may only have a minor problem. Tisk, tisk.
If you have the time and want to make the effort, I second Thundergods recommendation. Id be surprised if the Dept. wont take up your case with the supplier.
If that fails, feel free to make contact to discuss your needs.

However, if ya do not follow the manual, use non filtered water nor perform regular cleaning and or maintenance... Then even the BEST machine will fail..Most appliance type machines are at best temperamental and at worst lemons...
The issue is PEBFAG..
Now... If ya in Brisbane... I think I and 1/3 of one of those machines... Thus would you be interested in passing on the dead one. I could use for parts

What state are you in?Originally posted by 51444D4D484E5555210 link=1263955742/0#0 date=1263955742Now it has suddenly broken again and those lovely people at Gaggia have told me it is 10 days out of warranty so TOUGH!
In NSW and Qld, Fair Trading will take a complaint under legislation dealing with your "Statutory Warranty".
This means that the more you pay for something the longer it is expected to last.
Its over and above the "Manufacturers Warranty" which they told you has expired.
Other states may have similar legislation.
