when descaling machine, remove filter, as descal can damage the resin particles

water filters reduce the amount of scale / hardness in the water, but unless you are using filters that cost $200, then that is all you are doing, is reducing

6900/10 are very very suseptacle to scale problems
    as are all  thermoblock units

most steaming/ temperature problems are associated with lack of descaling or not replacing calc filters

i reccomend descaling a sunbeam at least every 3 months

and no this isnt an add for selling more descaling tablets or anti calc filters

    So true...

But next week we will get asked if a Filter is a Filter / Do I need to clean my machine... / Vinegar is good enough ;D

Assumptions Kill.. CS search eng has the answers... Now; leave me alone, I am trying to sleep 8-)

Ok thanks guys for the advise. It wasnt a case of me being miserable and not wanting to spend the money. The reasoning was it needed to be replaced and if using filtered water negated the need to use the tank filter than why spend 25 clams if I didnt need to. Could buy $25 worth of beans instead.
I would still buy the anti-calc filter for piece of mind. $25 is nothing if you want a machine that is well maintained and want it to last a long time. :-X

    Yep,

And getting back to the OP, its 25 clams of expendable or wear and tear item. I fail to see the question.

Hey, recycle it, on the timetable as Graham mentioned...

...or just buy a new one...

    Chris

...machines cost - ongoing - Sunny or otherwise...

Yes.   And then theres the seal and cleaning tablets and descaling liquid, and depreciation, and cartridges for the brita jug.

But none of these running costs count when preparing submissions for funding or bench space.  Only the negligible electricity cost is shown so that you can say running costs were included.

    Nice one Graham, sound advice.

I descale every 3 months, if not sooner, and remove the filter during the operation. It just made sense to me.

We also replace the filter every 6 to 12 as per recommendations.

Bottom line, if you cant afford to buy a new filter there is a whole lot going wrong somewhere else.

    hi
as AM says, you can rejenerate them

should be done at least monthly

    How much is a filter?

Contact the bank and take a second mortgage  :

I replaced mine the other week and I cannot remember how much it cost, nor care.

Go to your local aquarium shop and invest $25 or so in a hardness test kit.
Then youll know what your tap water is like, and what the filter puts out.
Anything else is just guesswork, and at a price that is less than 1kg of coffee its a bargain.

Its called a Pure Water System filter which is hooked into the sink tap. My understanding is that it filters out calcium and stuff like that. How much notice can you take of sales people then, when I was looking at buying a new 6910 at Myers they pointed out the filter in the tank as a feature and commented that if you use filtered water then you would not even need the filter.
