  • Sunbeam 6910 Collar Replacement

Hi Guys, just wondering if there is a way of removeing the collar on the SB6910 without dismantling all the brass fittings on the group head??
Ive just purchased a new collar and want to replace it.

        NO......

I have posted instruction many times and there are even PDFs that have been put together. Showing how to dissabble.

        Coffee snobs search function.

        In a nut shell.

Unplug and cut plug off lead.. SERIOUS.

        Remove all the loose bits

Remove rear door and inner cover

Remove R/H side cover... Special screw driver

Remove Both knobs and all the bits etc and screws under and around teh group

        Undo L/H side special screw.

With tongue in place... Carefully remove top. Watch out for teh control wires.

Remove all teh lock down screws for the head... two types and one SPECIAL.. Watch teh one on the L/H side ;D

Remove all the screws that lock down the two valves... Now or before the previous... Can not recall 8-)

You may need to loosen a fitting or two.. :P

Carefully flex the Thermo block up and wiggle the group collar while standing on one leg and with ya left hand in ya right Front pocket.

        PRESTO... opps Presso ;D

Do teh reverse and replace and tighten all teh bits... Those left over... Sweep up and bin..

NOTE: Tongue must be in the other cheek.

        After putting teh top on...

Check ya group and confirm that the steps have been ground off - see post on CS. And retrain ya methods so that you do not cause teh problem again...

        Confirm that all locks OK.

Replace all covers; while ensuring that all fittings you flexed / touched are OK.

        After fitting the rear door...

Call an electrician to test and replace plug.

About 25 - 35 min to complete once ya done it a few times and have all teh tools at hand.

Now the 6900 is the same but different..

Actually... Quite straight forward for any one with some sound mechanical nouse...

Note: Ya rush it or do teh wrong thing... Some one or teh machine will suffer.

OH.. In some units the screws holding teh collar have been locktighted in; And may sheer off...

AM, I know youre a safety first kind of guy, but do you really have to cut the plug off?  :

How else do you stop people from plugging in / or forgetting its plugged in / or turned on / etc etc.

While I would be happy to stop the rate of change towards Idiocracy and not rave about safety... There is a veiled duty of care.... That some assume has to be provided and that CS as a forum is not targeted by the current reviews that are going on....
The new National laws will kick many buts and plenty that think they are exempt.
Will any one do it and cut the plug off..... NO... Will I be surprised when some one actually hurts them selves NO..... Pissed if they kill some one else...

People and their crap - They get their knickers and thongs inb a knot; about Soy milk... Scale ... Chemicals in teh water, lead in paint... Meat Vs Vegies.. And lets not forget smoking or drinking...

Guess what... They all take a Looog time to kill ya and some times you can even take a PILL to get better.

Well; once 240V has a good chop at ya.. No second chance and NO pill.....

Familiarity and Complacency come to mind... Just like Aids / Syphilis / Ghonera / STDd in general etc... Massive increases in new infections... Out of all proportion across the world..

I just can not comprehend the blind approach (head in sand) on one hand (electrical / preventable transmitted health issues) and fanatical approach about minor crap..

Bugger... That Tar and bug remover stuff is great... I see things so clearly NOw... Need to go snif it some more... 8-)

There was NO need.. They use special Gas fittings NOT plumbing.. No not a Sunbeam part..

                        Quality..

                        It broke - WHY ?

                        1: Tight  Why?

2: Why touch it ... Caus I did.. WHY ?  No need

3: What did you use and why - A spanner ( not a shifter... NOooooo)

                        4: Why ONE spanner ?

5: Cause that all ya need ?  WRONG

6: Always two spanners when doing up or undoing any union... Standard Mechanical approach..  Opps Assumptions....

RCA - 1: One spanner was used 2: It was tight but I kept going  3: I was in a rush $: I am good with my hands...  Assumptions every time.

Have ya turned it on yet ???

PS. Ya want which fitting ??? Oh.. You have the tools to remove the broken thread and not damage the nut and or the olive/ end flare... that is still there ...

The whole pipe and all the fittings... OHHHH

Send it to me and I can fix for YA True... Cost ya postage both ways and a $5 donation to FC

1: Never ever had to touch that pipe on any EM6910 or EM6900 for a collar replacement... Done about 10 so far.

2: Yes.. Have removed the steam Thermo block and those fittings many times...

3: Very tight... Very slow and TWO fitted spanners on the two parts... Never ever had problems...

But did watch a mate snap the lower one... Not careful and made assumptions..

4: No rush... My first one took 2 hrs... To day; I dont even have to loosen any pipe fittings to do a collar

Some ya win and some ya loose.... Now you know better.

As you know, the fittings have a tappered thread, so they are extremely tight and i was very careful, taking it off and putting it back on. It snapped where it was no where near the end. Its just my bad luck.....and the only reason i did take it off is because i didnt want to bend the crap out of the pipes incase i stuffed them up.
I wanted more room cause i had to clean where the collar was cause coffee had gotten on there.

Never mind, ill get it sorted next week
