Gday Wisie....Originally posted by 79677D676B0E0 link=1276829788/14#14 date=1277357182Thanks to the guys at The Cupping Room my machine was looked at and it turns out it will be needing a new boiler which will run me around $350-400~. Might be best to buy a new one I think
Thanks again everyone

Dont give up yet mate. Your problem can be solved by drilling out the original Element Posts from the Boiler and then buying and fitting a replacement element. Not a difficult job if you know someone in a machine shop who have access to small diamond core-drill bits.

Re: Silvia Light Stuck On
Dont forget to tell us what is actually wrong, when you get it back.
Hope it isnt the heating element - that means a whole new boiler on the new Silvias...
I take it you have an RCD/ELCB/"Safety Switch" on your mains supply to the machine? If not, you might like to know that partial failure of the heater can lead to the chassis getting shorted to the neutral side of the mains and the little neon will light permanently under that circumstance. Unfortunately, so might you if you touch the machine!
Best of luck with it!

Re: Silvia Light Stuck On
Theoretical "on paper" diagnosis from all the above, Im with Jim, its the element. Actual diagnosis could point the finger elsewhere but....
You say the water seems quite hot / normal.....maybe not.....lukewarm perhaps?
Further, in agreement with others, whatever the cause there is an electrical "inconvenience" happening and this means it is a "take it to your nearest service centre" scenario. I am glad others have already recommended that.

Re: Silvia Light Stuck On
Boiler is warming up, but light is staying on anyway, right?
Then my guess would be either a dodgy main switch (less likely), or a failing heating coil (more likely).
The light gives an indication of the state of the thermostats. If the light is on, then the thermostats are calling for more heat. If the light stays on, then the boiler is never getting hot enough to satisfy the them.
If the problem was caused by a stuck thermostat, then the heater would continue to heat until the safety thermostat was tripped, which has apparently not happened on your machine.
So that leaves a faulty heater as the most likely cause. OOMPH! will probably be able to tell right away if this is the case.
Jim (hopes hes wrong)

Re: Silvia Light Stuck On
Sending Silvia to Oomph or any other reputable specialist espresso machine technician would definitely be the go. Too dangerous to be mucking around under the bonnet if youre not au fait or qualified to work with 240V AC....

Cheers Kevin for the reply. I think this one might be above my pay grade by the sounds of it and will require someone who knows what theyre doing to have a look at it. Has anyone suggestions of where to get a silvia fixed?
Ahh it was a long day without coffee :-?
