  • Help for New to coffee person

Hi all, Just joined the site and would love your help. Im new into coffee making, but just know id love it, I love a great coffee. but at this stage i have never had the chance to make one. Apart from your instant suff. but here is were im not sure which way to go after doing a bit of looking around my personal choice would be to buy a Rancilio Silva and a rocky grinder. approx $1350 or so but should i spend this much on my first one, I did look at the breville BES860 but i have read so many posts and reviews that knock it, a friend has one and they love it. I just dont want to get one and then wish i had spent the extra to get a Rancilio. What do you think would be the way to go for me ? any others I should look at ?

Thanks for your help it is appreciated.

    Welcome Wayno,

Upgraditis is a disease in this place and my advice to you is to buy the best equipment you can afford and dont skimp on the grinder.

The silvia rocky combo are tried and tested and would not be too big a step for you first pair.

    Good luck and enjoy!

      yes, welcome.

The Rancilio pair would be the way to go if you love coffee and want to make good coffee at home. As barrel said, upgraditis is a curse and it will probably bite you too. At least the Rancilio pair should have you going well for a while...while the Breville will have you with a bad case of upgraditis immediately.

Re: Help for New to coffee person

I was in the fortunate position to be able to spend almost twice that on my first lot of equipment and later had thoughts that I might have missed out on some learning by not starting cheaper.

Ive been reassured that I missed nothing but heartache and unnecessary expense.

If you can afford the Silvia and Rocky then do it.

my first real machine purchase (after a sunbeam plastic fantastic) was the rocky/silvia pair and i cant recommend it more. also, when you are looking into it definitely consider a PID... makes life so much easier!

Silvia is a good machine (albeit overpriced), but to get the best from it, pair it with a grinder better than Rocky.

If anyone has any form of documentation on this machine, or is willing
to describe how to operate a Brasilia Lady/Club - I would sincerely
appreciate it as I am purchasing one of these machines tomorrow, with
no Manual however... and do not want to risk doing anything stupid to
                  such a great machine!

                  Thanks in advance people!

                    Welcome to Coffee Snobs Zote.

Firstly, (not wanting to get off on the wrong foot) double posting is frowned upon in most forums.
You will find you only need to post once here to get a reply (if there is one).

Secondly, as you havent explained the history of your decision to purchase, Im at a loss to understand why you are buying the machine without a manual if you dont know how to operate it.

Lastly, a question; cannot the seller explain to you how to use the machine before you hand over your hard earned cash?
