Placed a deposit on the machine.
Do you think its possible to ask the girls/guys there if they can do some sort of package deal / price on the machine, tamper and maybe some descaling solution or even beans?

    ~$900.

I was only refering to the upgraded Lelit PL041QE, have added model number to posts to avoid confusing.

I dont care for marketing but i do for a seller who list in detail what they think is good and explains their reasons why and answers customers questions honestly and offers advice. Being an USA website the cost of freight would be horrendous and most dont ship outside of USA anyway. Just sharing with an fellow CS info that might help his purchase decision.

From some of the posts here some members have been let down by Australian importers, seem the bigger and more open market in the USA offers more competition and better service. I am not referring to any CS sponsors.

I have read the latest model lelit PL041QE has some improvements, new shower head, steam wand, and opv has been reduced to 9 bar instead of 15bar , has caused some issue with users of old machine , as low pump pressure wont flow throw same grind as before.

not sure if combi has same improvements i suspect it would.

First off, and most obvious is the relocation of the steam knob. This is to provide a more natural feel and use for the machine.

Second, is the steam wand, now standard is the non-frothing aid wand, which was introduced on the 2010 model earlier this year.

Third, and most important is the dispersion screen found in the group. Lelit has redesigned this part, using a new screen and jet to ensure OPTIMAL water flow through your espresso puck. This also allows the use of a newly added pod basket.

    Cheers fellas.

    Makes sense.

Upon further reading the lelite combo is looking pretty damned good.
Im preordering a lelit machine as I dont already have a grinder and didnt want to have yet another machine/appliance on the counter. I chose the Lelit because i know the grinder will match the espresso machine well. And also because of its great performance for price. Theres some good reviews on coffeegeek.com . Also if youre looking to save a little try the Lelit PL041 - same as the $850 combi but without the grinder. Its cheaper then the silvia and can produce coffee just as good.

Cons = 57mm protafilter (wont really matter unless you suddenly become a modding nut) and that its hard to find.

    good luck.

Be aware you are starting on a slippery slope of upgraditis.  Silvia is a great machine as stated by many owners (I personally have never owned one).  The Em0450 will probably be alright but as stated in many previous posts here - spend the money on a good grinder and benefits will flow.  I started with an EM4800c and 0480 and got good coffee.  I bought a Mazzer Mini whilst I still had the Em4800c and got better coffee.  I then bought an EM6910 as a stop gap until I can afford a better machine.  So in a few words buy a better grinder first

TG is correct, he was writing as was I and he posted first.  The unpressurised basket (with practice) will improve your coffee.  I used one on the 4800C and found it improved.  Then I bought the Mazzer and found a greater improvement.  but as stated the upgraditis but has bitten.

    The EM0450 should be OK.

i have an unpressurised krups basket coming in the mail as we speak
Unless you grind extremely fine, the pressure is dictated by the pressurised basket I assume youre currently using.
And at that level of fineness you may just put too much pressure on the system.

Best to wait for the new basket.

Ive seen some second handers on evilbay for around $400ish.
Im a firm believer that when it comes to coffee machines, unless you can see it working you should steer clear of the Bay of Evils.

    Upgradeitis - Sunbeam em3600 --> ???

    Hi All,

Been a long time lurker here and ive taken many a great tip. I have an EM3600 and a sunbeam grinder EM0450, i moved around the corner from Coffee alchemy and have been buying beans that have been roasted either same day or the day after, previously i was using a different but locally roasted bean, probably a week or two from roast date and my crema is dissipating before i pour my milk, i did reduce my grind size and tamp less in a effort to let the fresh coffee apply more back pressure, is this right?? The coffee tastes great but id prefer a better crema, i have an unpressurised krups basket coming in the mail as we speak, but a solution now would be nice.

Or is the solution an upgrade? The Silvias seem to be getting a pretty great rap, what should i expect to pay? Ive seen some second handers on evilbay for around $400ish. will my grinder still stand up?

    Im in Enmore, Sydney.

    thanks in advance
Working...
