Re: Time for a machine upgrade - from Sunbeam to Silvia?
yep, ive found it the same... get up, turn on lelit, have shower, get dressed, do hair... feed starving cat (or so she thinks) about 20 minutes all up for me and the machine is well and truly warm. you could always run some water through if you dont think the PF is warm enough.
The coffee tastes fantastic and this morning i managed to make coffee, cook toast, eat toast and drink coffee plus clean the group head (water only) in about 15 minutes...which is about as long as i used to wait at the local cafe to even get my coffee and breakfast...

Re: Time for a machine upgrade - from Sunbeam to Silvia?
After playing with the Lelit for a month or so I can tell you that it heaTs up well under 30 minutes.
At about 15 minutes its too hot to touch the group head. And the cup warming plate is well warm.
I usually put the pf in and then turn it on just before I jump in the shower in the mornings. I then have a shower and once Im dressed - shes ready ~15 minutes.
Let us know any further thoughts or questions you have SenojNW.

I did this once. :-[Originally posted by 497F747570544D1A0 link=1278985808/25#25 date=1279329435Just have read in a few places that its a bit risky incase the brew button has been accidentally flicked and it runs dry while you slumber... but have read mixed reports... some say its fine others dont... guess its just a matter of whether you can live with the risk. Why dangerous?
My Expobar has a low water cutout switch that turns the element off if too much water is emptied from the tank.
Luckily for me it has a 2 litre drip tray and only two or three drops made it onto the benchtop.
So the timer isnt an issue.

The 041EM, from the pictures, has push buttons instead of retro toggle switches and a pressure gauge where the 041 has none.Originally posted by 7A707C7C68110 link=1278985808/32#32 date=1279364461thanks poet, by the way does anyone know the diff between the PL041 AND PL041EM?

Hey poet, did you but a package deal? Place of purchase and rough price?? interested in similar set up. cheers.Originally posted by 110E0415610 link=1278985808/24#24 date=1279329400SenojNW Im very happy with my choice of a LeLit PL041 and a Compak K3T grinder, both performance wise and price wise. There is plenty of room for improvement, but my 3min warm-up coffees are more than satisfactory for my needs first thing on a busy morning...... :-*

Re: Time for a machine upgrade - from Sunbeam to Silvia?
Yeah I made that discovery when I initially got a cheap smasher/blender type grinder with my EM3800 - I upgraded to a Sunbeam conical burr (EM0480) which isnt the greatest but the difference was huge. Existing grinder should do the job for now.Originally posted by 4C5359483C0 link=1278985808/28#28 date=1279330850but dont forget the grinder probably will make the biggest difference

Definitely SenojNW, but dont forget the grinder probably will make the biggest difference (as Im sure others with far more knowledge will tell you) .........
Good luck, Im having a ball on my coffee journey, and cant wait until I move on from tweaking machines and skills to exploring beans and roasting

Thanks poet - I think being a CS noob I would probably fall into the same category. Even if I use a short warming time Im probably going to see an improvement just from moving from a low to mid range machine...Originally posted by 415E5445310 link=1278985808/24#24 date=1279329400my 3min warm-up coffees are more than satisfactory for my needs first thing on a busy morning...... :-*

Just have read in a few places that its a bit risky incase the brew button has been accidentally flicked and it runs dry while you slumber... but have read mixed reports... some say its fine others dont... guess its just a matter of whether you can live with the risk. Why dangerous?
I never give my Sunbeam longer than say 10 min warming time so Id say Im not getting optimal results now anyway...

Ok so I havent had my LeLit for very long, and Im still getting to know the machine (and fine tune my skills), but I havent noticed a difference between letting the machine warm-up for 3 mins or 30mins. *ducks and run for cover from the OlSmokeys*

The only problem Ive had with my timer was recently discovering the back up batteries were dead.
This meant that after the electrician had been to install a new light that the internal clock had reset to midnight and the machine didnt come on as usual the next morning.

Re: Time for a machine upgrade - from Sunbeam to Silvia?
Lies, lies, lies....All machines need at least 30 minutes....Do a search on the term cheat Silvia for some tipsOriginally posted by 50666D6C694D54030 link=1278985808/21#21 date=1279327637Thanks Mal
Wow - 40 minutes is a long time! How long to produce an average result that will satisfy a morning pre-work caffeine requirement? Great coffee can be a weekend job... The Lelit site says 3 minutes to heat up - surely there is a happy medium between the two...
Unless I use a timer which sounds like a dangerous proposition...
