There is as much chance that this happened as there is of George Clooney winning the next WBC using stale pod coffee and a latte art stencil.
    I hear hes competing...

;D Great diagnosis Dr Charlie. I think you got it in one...

Like I said earlier Hung, if you can afford to, just do it, you know you wont be happy until you have the ultimate shiny espresso monster sitting on your bench, with an appropriate top of the range grinder of course.

Ive used a Sunbeam at work extensively over the last 4 years or so and at home have an HX machine.

From my experience, what you said about struggling to get a decent coffee out of the Sunbeam could be many factors.
Assuming the machine was working properly it could have been stale beans, an inadequate grinder or the operator.
The Sunbeam can make excellent coffee.

Now that youve spent money on the Lelit, I recommend you stick at it and get your moneys worth.

When (and if) you find it can no longer keep up with you, that would would be the time to upgrade.

However, if you can live with the monetary loss, then make yourself feel better and go get yourself a "Canon 5DMK2" equivalent coffee machine.

No use crying over split milk.

One must learn from ones mistakes or else one is doomed to keep reliving them.

            Thanks for all the replies

chris and AM have made very valid pionts and pretty much helped answer the question I was after

but some of those bling bling HX machines are just pure coffee porn and soo hard to resist  ;D

just picked up another fresh batch of beans from dennis at cuppacoffee today - time for a midnight cuppa and spend some more time with lelit
Hung I was surprised to read your post just a few hours after our conversation telling me how much you enjoyed the coffee from the Lelit.

A good thing you sent your non-coffee drinking wife (lol) in to pick up the coffee and other bits - otherwise if it were you I think you would have walked out with an Alex Duetto! :

Another good thing about the Lelits is that if and when you decide to upgrade, as long as its been cared for, you wont need to trade it in - it will sell on CS in a heartbeat.

            Hope youre enjoying the coffee!

Re: Lelit Combi - Help needed

I wouldnt do anything too rash right away... My parents have got a single group ex-commercial (something Spanish, cant remember what it is) with a 5 odd litre boiler, HX etc. and I really cant taste that much repeatable difference in my coffees on the combi, and cleanup/production time for one or two drinks isnt THAT different between the two, it really only takes an extra minute or two.
If youre itching to spend some money on coffee improvement, why dont you take a barista course? Get a good roaster? PID your combi? Get a custom Pullman tamper? I reckon doing this sort of thing will give you much better in-cup improvement than blowing cash on another machine so soon after getting the first..
I find it very hard to believe that ANYONE could have outgrown a decent single boiler machine after half a kilo of beans!!
