Actually I have the same question myself.
initially i was convinced with a lelit, but sort of changed my mind for the bes860
    Main problem is the support.
It seems that nobody stocks or wants to sell lelit parts, while with breville its a non issue.

I sent Andy a PM to ask his opinion, so hopefully he can post here if he sees it, or ill copy paste it.

    :-)

hey, the lelit is a great choice. i got the non-combi version from Jetblack espresso in syndey, but i live on the other side of the city from them.

I found that they are great with helping me over the phone on occasion when i was trying to figure stuff out, though im sure any other site sponsor would be equally helpful!

    Thanks Bullit and others.
Yeah the more I read and see pics of the Lelit the more I feel confident that I could tinker if the need arose.
Thing I will miss I think is some type of support locally for all the crazy new user queries that I will have so as long as the Lelit supplier offers good support intitially I think I will be right.

So def leaning towards the Lelit at this stage

I think the Lelit, if looked after, will be much more reliable for longer than the other option you mentioned.
And as noted above machines like the Lelit can be repaired at home with basic skills.

You might find it a bit of a pain to go from plunger to espresso grinds all of the time, although some people do it.

Generally speaking if it can grind fine enough fro espresso it can grind coarse enough for plunger. You might just need to put a couple of stickers on the grinder so you can quickly get back to your last setting.

Lelits a good machine, it will serve you well until you go Hx or Double Boiler

Edit:why is it you only notice the spelling mistakes and typos after you press submit :

    +1 for the Lelit option.
Addressing your repair concerns, I would say these are similar in design to the Silvia, and going on my experience, if you are reasonably capable of tackling minor repairs, you should be able to maintain it yourself. Only last week, I did a steam arm seal replacement on my 3yo Silvia. Parts overnight from Coffeeparts for less than $20, including a spare group seal. A great way to get to know your machine as well !
So I would suggest not to let distance be a major influence in your decision. The likes of the better single boiler machines derive their reliability from the inherant simplicity of their design, coupled with correct use and regular home maintenance (backflush/descale & I would recommend opening up the grinder at least once a year to give it a good clean out).

The following thead contains some interesting discussion if you have not seen it yet:

The Breville grinder is a bit on the ordinary side for Espresso use and the Lelit is much tougher so it is an easy decision I reckon

Maintenance wise the Lelit is fairly simple for most of the regular bits while the Breville is an appliance with lots of cheap bits so off to the shop.

Combo machine - first purchase query

Hi, Ive been trawling around Coffee Snobs for a while in the lead up to my first machine purchase. It’s the grinder combo machines that seem to fit the bill. While the temptation to get that hit quickly with a Breville BES860 is strong, the value of the Lelit combi seems great.

Couple questions that owners might be able to help with -

Id like the flexibility to grind for plunger/drip coffee as well and looks like the Breville BES860 grinder might not deliver that flexibility? How about the Lelit?

Living in North Qld I don’t have the luxury of local specialist retailers, so availability of a local repairer for the likes of a Breville is attractive. Flip side is that "Italian reliability" (rusty Alfas come to mind    ) would hopefully mean long years of service. Interested on CSs comments on repairs in country areas.

    Thanks in advance - kahvi
