Re: What is it with the Gaggia "Crema Perfetta" filters?
Thanks iaindb, I did all 4 this morning - coarser grind, lighter tamp, shorter extraction at a lower temperature. It tasted quite good, but judging by the feel most of the oils were left behind in the coffee grounds.
Still better than the plunger though, so its good enough for me until the standard filters arrive. I think it would be difficult to learn to pull a good brew using pressure filters because so much froth comes out.

until they arrive, try grinding a bit courser, or tamping a bit lighter.
Was it burnt because it was over-extracted, or too hot?

What is it with the Gaggia "Crema Perfetta" filters?
Ive been following your advice over the last week, to improve my morning coffee experience from a dose of caffiene from a plunger to an enjoyable one.
You have saved me from following Choices advice on coffee machine purchase (Sunbeam), and I have bought a new Gaggia Classic as the best machine I can afford (i think).
But my first coffee in this machine was burnt because of the stupid pressurised filter. Awful. I now have to wait for the standard filters to arrive from the parts supplier - the machine is fine I think, but until the filters arrived Ill use the plunger again.
Great advice here - saved me from making some big mistakes.
