I dont store beans in the hopper. I measure the beans per shot with a soup spoon. I warm up and clean the group for the first pour by flushing it while empty. Try to load enough grounds so that the tamper goes into the filter the depth of the shiny part.

    Enjoy your coffee.

    Hi Mamma,

Many of us here solve #1 by measuring the correct amount of beans into the hopper and grinding until the hopper (and grinder) are empty. I have a little scoop that came with some protein powder that works fine.

For #2 it depends on how long its to be left. If you are making coffees back-to-back, they I wouldnt be rinsing--it will cool the portafilter too much--just wipe out the basket. If the next coffee is more than 5 minutes away, then yes, take out the basket and rinse everything. To save that step (and for other reasons) I use a bottomless portafilter and no residue gets trapped between the basket and the handle.

    ps--good questions!

My First Day with the Breville BES860

Hello all! im buzzing from my first 2 coffees in my first machine. Isnt it exciting its like a first kiss! As you can see Im a newbie so Im going to need lots of help. Couple of quick questions first.
    1) I only make 1-2 cups per day so I would not want leave my beans in the hopper would I? The hopper is easy to empty but the ones that sit on the grinder how do I get them out or do you just leave them there?
    2) Then manual says to flush the portafilter with water after you empty the puck. Ok no worries but can I then leave it or do I need to pull out the filter basket and wash up in the sink?

I hope these arnt stupid questions! Thanks....
Working...
