  • Gee machine or the lelit combo - Continued from Self catering for coffee needs

I am trying to decide between a lelit combo or a Gee from what I have read the lelit combo seems a better choice as my current grinder a Delonghi KG100 will not be a match for the Gee.

Please assist as I am all new to this.

    Hi and welcome

from what Ive read (I dont have any direct experience with any of those models) you would need a better grinder for the Gee, but it seems to be a better machine. One of the sponsors is pairing the Gee with the Breville Smart Grinder ($299?) which seems like an excellent pair to me.

However the Lelit is all-in-one so you have to decide if you want that or not. From what Ive heard the Lelit Combi grinder is well matched to the machine, and together theyll make a good espresso.

What is your budget and what sort of coffee do you drink and how often? This might make it a bit easier to recommend.

What machine do you have currently? Have you considered upgrading the grinder now and keeping your current machine?

      Hi,

All the Delonghi KG100s weve seen (when people bring them in to do the barista course) havent been able to go fine enough for unpressurised baskets (like the ones in the Lelit and Gee). Be prepared to upgrade your grinder IMO.

In my hands (previously onwed a Mokita Combi & Quaha Napoletana)they certainly made a very good shot. When I bought a K3 grinder I stopped using the built-in grinder as the improvement was signficant.

Its a case of better the devil you dont know, if that makes sense. Im sure if Id bought myself a Robur Id have stopped using the K3. You will be happy with the built-in grinder.

Having said that, if it were me Id get the GEE.  Athough I havent actually used one I think it would be easier to use and give more consistent results.  You will definitely need a better grinder.

I drink a piccolo or a short mac...
Budget great question..... I originally bought a cheap machine from Aldi should have known better then bought grinder to match.....I know poor choices.

When I started looking into a home setup. I thought of just getting a presso coffee maker with my current grinder.

Now having done more research I am totally confused and think if I go a machine set up I will have spend $1000 budget

Look at the Lelit PL042 with built in grinder or the PL041 + a separate grinder, maybe the new Breville BCG800.

Or- a demo GEE and Breville will be within budget and are more versatile 8-)
