Yeah! The triple that came with the naked sure is a bigun! Ive used it once or twice, but its a bit too much for me!

Good to hear you paid the standard price

I stand corrected thanks: I paid the list price of $21.90 from JetBlack Expresso. Interestlingly, when I bought the naked portafilter it actually came with a Silvia triple basket for the one price. Good for big mugs of latte or cap for those times when you want it to last.

    Thanks for the reply Richard.

I definitely prefer a stronger coffee.

When I was using my Silvia, I never used the stock double basket. I had been using the Gaggia one, which is substantially bigger.

The Isomac one sits in between the two in terms of size. I guess I should get a Synesso one just to try it out!

By the way, if you dont mind me asking, how come you paid $39 for the Synesso basket? They seem to go for around $22 from some of the sponsors... is yours a different one (that you know about...)

Postscript: I also got a naked portafilter and its used all the time now. Ive watched the pour characteristics from both Silvia and Synesso and cant see any difference.

For me, the question depends entirely on your palette. I like my coffee on the strong side and always have double shots. I found the doubles on the Silvia were not quiet the strength I wanted so I bought a Synesso and I am now happy with the flavour depth. To understand the differences, I bought some micro-scales from eBay ($12.99 inc postage) and compared the weight of beans that can be held in both baskets (full to the top and lightly flatten out with a credit card). The Silvia holds 17 grams and the Synesso holds 20.5 grams. Do the math, but thats around 20% more beans so the $39 I paid for the Synesso was a great buy. My boys like their shots not as strong, so the Silvia basket goes back on for them. Horses for courses.

Any benefits in getting Synesso double basket?

Ive got an Isomac Zaffiro and am using both the double basket that came with it as well as a leftover Gaggia double from a previous, now RIP, Carezza.

Im looking to get a double basket that is bigger than the Isomac one (similar in volume to the Gaggia). The issue with the Gaggia is that the bottom of the basket curves in quite a bit and seems to be affecting the pour. I notice this when I compare both double baskets during a naked pour and the taste is just different (Im no good at describing taste!).

Anyway, will it be worth getting the synesso double basket that many seem very keen about?

(Isomac on left, Gaggia on right)

Working...
