  • Help.....Via Venezia not heating

    Hi All,

I woke up this morning looking forward to nice hot coffee only to discover my machine didnt heat up.

How can I determine if it is the thermostat or the boiler?
Is it a DIY (I have changed a steam valve before) Job.

    Thanks Guys.

      Re: Help.....Via Venezia not heating

there will be a brew thermostat and steam thermostat and heating element in series

thermostat should be closed when cold and go open when it reaches its rated temp
element should also be low resistance about 10 to 50 ohms depending on wattage
the brew thermostat will be shorted out by steam switch when steaming, so only steam thermostat is used.

check if it still gets steam temp, if that is ok then your brew thermostat is broke.
if not maybe a broke steam thermostat or element or faulty wiring

you can test all the part with it powered off using a mulitmeter
thermostats are just simple on or off switches controlled by temperature.

      hope this helps

          do a google for " Wire Diagram Barista 230V 00300373 "
it give you a wiring diagram.

here is a jpg of gaggia with circuit diagram, which will give you a better idea how your machine operates
single boiler machines are all similar , gaggia, Via Venezia, Silvia etc.

there will also be a thermal fuse on boiler , this is shown as 2 in gaggia diagram, it there to protect element if thermostats fail closed. thermal fuse will be open circuit if it has blown, and will need to be replaced.

looking at diagram of via viencia you have 3 thermostats , boil 95, steam 127 , protect 175
on the boiler. coffee parts should sell thermostats if you need them.

            your element is 900W = 64 ohms.

              Hi Firepower,

Just wanted to say thanks for all the info provided.
The good news is I opened it up this afternoon and it was two burnt out wires. Stripped the ends back replaced the old clip & working as good as new. ;D

              Thanks again,
              Shane
PS Writing this with fresh (Hot) brew in hand
