Re: Servicing EM6910
Pg 29 of the manual recommends that during long periods of non-use the PF "not be left attached to the group as this will reduce the life of the seal." So I would recommend leaving it unattached if you want to maximise the life of the seal. (Leaving it attached will mean the seal is continuously compressed leading to the silicon taking on this shape over the long term.) Despite all this, I leave my handle in just tight enough so it doesnt fall out (just for somewhere to keep it) and my first seal lasted about 14 months.

Re: Servicing EM6910
Thanks for the replies everyone. I periodically descale and machine clean with the Sunbeam cleaning products. I also clean the shower screen etc so Im quite comfortable with all of that. The water filter cartridge has never been replaced so it probably needs doing, and the seal was last replaced 12+ months ago so is definitely due for replacement.
Im hoping the seal alone will resolve the leak, but I have a bad feeling the collar may also be worn... :-/
:question One question: I never leave the group handle attached to the machine when not in use. I was led to believe that this caused premature wear on the seal and caused it to compress and lose shape. Brew Mes comment above indicates that the handle should always be attached when not in use so as to preserve the seal. Can anyone explain the correct procedure and the rationale behind it?

Re: Servicing EM6910
Not too sure if youd be comfortable with this - but things you can do yourself which is quite easy.
1) Replace group head seal (do a search on ebay - the price is cheaper than getting it from my local sunbeam agent in St Ives)
2) Replace the water softener/filter
3) Clean shower screen
4) Backflush using some chemicals; i use cafetto
5) Descale the machine - use the triple machine cleaner (I got this from di bartoli last time I was out there)
Not too sure what else is covered in a service, but the above steps arent overly complicated or expensive if you do it yourself.
If you find that replacing the group seal doesnt solve your leaking problem, then it could be a worn collar (just have a look and run your fingers along the collar to make sure its still straight). From what Ive read on coffeesnobs, the collar replacemnt is a trickier job that involves taking the machine apart.

ooops...heres the link http://www.sunbeam.com.au/support/repairers#ACTOriginally posted by 192228232A392F084B0 link=1312701234/2#2 date=1312716373Hi CamOriginally posted by 40424E4E40445142574B230 link=1312701234/0#0 date=1312701234Hi all,
I think I need to send my EM6910 in for a general service. Does anyone happen to have a rough idea of how much it will cost to service and are there any highly recommended service centres in the Sydney metro area?
The main issue I have with it at present is water and grinds escaping from the group head when doing a pour. Im guessing this will be the group head seal. Not sure if anything else is wrong with it, but its almost 3 years old so Im thinking a general overhaul will not be a bad idea.
Cheers,
Cam
I religiously attach my group head after each use to preserve the seal (the manual makes a point of this). Sounds like your seal is shot if its leaking.
Follow think link to Sunbeams site for an authorised service centre.
Cheers

Re: Servicing EM6910
I have no idea what the cost would be.
Also you can only get the 6910 serviced at certain "Approved" Sunbeam Service Centres.
Ashfield is one of them and the guy there has always seemed decent enough when Ive dealt with him.
If Ashfield is not convenient youll have to ring Sunbeam to find your nearest Approved Repairer.
