Re: EM6910 shot and milk simultaneously

Ok, got my machine back from the repairers today who fitted it with a new pump. All the previous problems have been fixed (actually havent tried steaming and pouring the shot at same time but should be all good, will try tomorrow). Coffee coming out great! It seems I was persisting with a mediocre coffee thinking that was the best it got...

It definately doesnt take around 40-50 secs. Whenever it bounces the shot generally comes out pretty good. Never actually timed it but would imagine it would be around that 25-30 sec mark. The other occasion where the shot doesnt look as nice, again it doesnt appear to be over extracted...

the only time i have noticed the pressure gauge "bouncing" around on my 6910 is from having to fine a grind and causing the machine to have issues pumping water through, this produced around a 40-50 sec shot, that is the only time i have seen the pressure gauge moving around is from an over extracted shot which could also be the problem as to why it doesnt look as nice

By smoothly I more mean texture. The speed seems about similar on both occasions, just doesnt look as nice in the cup. When running steam and shot simultaneously, do not see a drop in the pressure gauge, but something just feels different. Anyhow, I decided to take it in for a service (while it still has a month warranty), noticed the pressure gauge bouncing sporadically as well. Maybe all these symptoms are related. Hopefully a service will sort it out. If not, have still been relatively happy with the coffee produced...

The 6910 is designed specifically to do both features at the same time so I doubt the two processes will effect each other.

Can you be a bit more specific about "the shot never comes out as smoothly" ? What do you mean by smoothly? are you referring to the speed that the shot comes out or the texture of it (i.e. bubbly or no creme etc)?

A quick test you might like to try - run a normal shot without the steam going, watch where the pressure settles at on the gauge. Then, while the shots still running, turn on the steam and see if the gauge needle moves. It shouldnt move at all, but maybe some voltages are fluctuating somewhere...?

The 6910 has twin thermoblocks, one for brewing and one for steaming. It also has two pumps, again one for each.

So the use of steam while brewing should have no effect on brewing, the only common factor is the water in the tank and the calc filter. Being completely independant you should have no temeperature issues either.

    Except....

The machine will draw more power when steaming and brewing than when doing one at a time so if your wiring (Powerboard, extension cable etc.) causes a voltage drop at the machine you might see a drop in brew temp. Might....

    EM6910 shot and milk simultaneously

Correct me if Im wrong but this machine should let me pull a shot and froth milk at the same time right? However Im finding some inconsistencies in my shots if I froth 1st or if I froth at the same time as pouring the shot. By inconsistencies I mean the shot never comes out as smoothly as it would if I poured the shot first then frothed my milk (sorry not very tecchy with my coffee talk, still learning...). Am I missing something here? Is there a problem with my machine? As in struggling to regulate the temp properly???
Working...
