    Re: Leaking EM6910

I removed the plastic thing on the first day I heat my PFs...

With the sticking to shower screen with the stock basket, I found (as Guru Phil mentioned) that it was due to me underdosing.

Fixed my dose, and grind to suit new dose and no more sticking...

Thanks for all the tips. I was worried that the collar might have been damaged but cleaning was all that was needed and what a difference it made.  Not only has the leaking stopped but it has fixed the problems Im having with pressure (thought it was just my tamping skills). I just hadnt noticed how much had built up under there!

No problems - its one of those funny things that you just dont realise needs doing until someone tells you, or you cant lock your group handle in any more!

I had same problem before and I went to the sunbeam repairer and they found out that the collar was damage.

Just make sure you dont put the coffee too full...the pressure will damage the collar...and always clean the shower screen and the seal around it after use.

I will find out if and when I get mine back. Been in the shop for a week and the Service people have not spoken to me. I have spoken to the mechanic and it was the thermo fuse. This is the second time it has blown and he cannot find out why??. I have contacted the Service people and they hopefully will talk to me tomorrow. I have requested either a new machine or an extended warranty as this is the third time it has broken down. > > >

No problems, Stan - even I dont read my own posts properly at times! ;D

Thats one of the things I have to admit I miss about the 6910 - I used to love taking the shower screen off every month or two and giving it a good scrub out and clean and putting it back together again. Im not quite so game to do it with my Musica.

Sorry DI I did not read your post properly   [smiley=wink.gif] When I was using the 6910 I always brushed the seal after every session along with the shower screen.  Another thing I did when this problem appeared is to run the head or handle of a tooth brush (rounded) around the seal and this seemed to fix it.  I dont know why.

I also thought it might be the seal so I have replaced it but it did not resolve the problem.
New seal and overtamping addressed previously by Cisco, Stan, which is why I went down the cleaning path. My 6910 used to do this as well, until I started actually cleaning around the seal all the time.

    Cheers

Could also be a new seal is required. Another cause of this is coffee is ground to fine/tamping to hard. More than likely it is a new seal.

    Hi Cisco

Do you regularly clean around the seal at all? Usually when the group builds up pressure and forces the water through, this will quite often push coffee grounds up around the seal area.  If you dont clean this out with a brush regularly (at least every couple of shots or so), this can build up the coffee grounds and give places for the water under pressure to seep through.

I have a grouphead brush that I use just for this purpose (a couple of the sponsors sell them, and they are only around the $10.00 or so mark), but you can achieve the same thing - albeit a bit more messily - by grabbing a damp microfibre cloth or similar and just wiping around the ring with it bunched up a bit.

    This may help.

    Cheers
    Di

PS - always make sure you get rid of any grinds around the group head basket and lugs also, as this can also contribute.

    Leaking EM6910

    Hi,

My EM6910 has a habit of sometimes leaking water/coffee from around the top of the PF. This usually happens when the pressure passes into the mid range colour on the gauge but does not happen all the time. I thought I might be overdosing it but I have modified the does an the problem still occurs. I also thought it might be the seal so I have replaced it but it did not resolve the problem.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks
