  • Any info on Quick mill Orione?

Does anyone know much about the quick mill orione? My silvia just packed it on and im thinking of an upgrade, im a bit of an aesthetics snob so im not expecting to get a much better machine than a silvia but maybe just pay a bit extra for looks including having a pressure guage, so i noticed the quick mill and maybe a isomac venus. Also is it a big deal if you dont have a 3 way valve? Because I like the look of the isomac maverick and its a bit cheaper than the machines i just mentioned

Venus works for me but costs more, as youve noted. Many seeking an upgrade from a Silvia but sticking with single boilers go for more $$ still, straight to the E61 group head machines (~$1500). Theyre invariably beautiful, as is Venus.

Maverick priced at about Silvia level never seems to get much of a mention. That may be just a function of sales  volume but I dont think the performance of Isomacs below Venus is highly revered.

The Mavericks boiler is pretty small - about 200-220ml? Venus is much better at 400ml.

Orione? Never heard of it... did I read thermoblock?

yes i think it could be a themoblock, is that bad? Wantrancilio how do you find steaming on the venus, the steam arm looks a bit short and stumpy and seems to have a bad angle for getting a whirlpool??

I have absolutely no trouble steaming milk for up to 3 cups. The only time Ive had a problem with the angle/stumpiness(?) is if its been an inappropriate jug (huge jug with small amount of milk).

(check your PM - I replied to yours)

I dont think theres a thermoblock on the market that is considered a match for silvia for quality coffee (am I misinformed?). A dual thermoblock is handy for instant steam though.

The sunbeam 6910 is a dual thermoblock that wins plaudits on this site. The consensus would be however that silvia is better if shot quality is the only criterion. It may be a very close call but the Sunbeam is also full of electronics therefore wont last as well.

              Made a choice W87?
I am interested in knowing more about why people choose a premium thermoblock eg Orione. I imagine the reasons are more secondary (heat up times, no element to blow up etc) rather than primary (in the cup) but valid-ish reasons nonetheless. Snobs can be real, well, snobs always bangin on about boilers!

I did a while back I dont really trust the brand that much and they dont look that great especially the ugly pid, great value and Im sure fantastic espresso but Im a sucker for brand and aesthetics, lame huh? The cheapest iv seen w new Venus is $1090, is it risky to buy from overseas? I can save a couple hundred on one site I found. Btw do u get any problems with water leaking from the steam wand on your Venus WR?

Re: Any info on Quick mill Orione?

My wand does drip a little but the swivel arm usually rests over the (deep) drip tray so I only get a couple of drips on the bench top.
