Re: Gaggia Classic needs priming each day
great result! you must be stoked. I love my classic. I have it at work, picked it up off a bloke who rarely used it and its been great. For such a small machine it makes a decent espresso with the right touch. enjoy!

Re: Gaggia Classic needs priming each day
Thanks for all the replys.
Yesterday I bit the bullet and bought a new pump and now the machine it is running great , after fitting the new pump I realised how much noise the old one was making .
I also did the pressure adjustment and I am getting more crema and better tasting coffee ..
So happy days

Check the solenoid. It may be scaled or the coil is on the way out.

Re: Gaggia Classic needs priming each day
Hi James ,thanks for the offer but I am in Qld.
Well , I took the pump apart and soaked it in de-scaler and then refitted and checked for leaks .
It seemed to work fine until a few hours later and the same problem again ...............
This morning went to make a coffee and it worked first time as it should . so I have no idea what it is , mabe it is a small leak , I will see how it goes ,.
Thanks for all the replys

Re: Gaggia Classic needs priming each day
Maybe the leak is where the pipe from the water tank goes into the pump. Air could be getting in there and the pipe just drains back into the tank.

Re: Gaggia Classic needs priming each day
There does not appear to be any leaks.
On further investigation I think it may be the pump .
To get it running once it has been turned off for a few hours I have to pull the pump feed hoses out of the tank turn the machine on and then drop it back in and then it starts pumping .

Re: Gaggia Classic needs priming each day
Strange, the pump-in pipe shouldnt drain, it should remain primed. Im going to guess there could be an air leak somewhere. Is there any water leaking anywhere?

Gaggia Classic needs priming each day
I have a 5 year old Gaggia classic which gets used 3 times a day.
For the last few days each morning when I turn on the switch to make the water flow to the grouphead the pump starts but wont pull the water out of the tank, I have to pull the silicon pipes out of the tank and then put them back in with the pump running to get it started. After that it makes great coffee (the pump does appear to struggle a bit though) for the rest of the day it will work ok.
I guess the water is draining out of the boiler and pipes overnight and the pump needs primimg each morning.
Any advice on how to fix this problem would be very welcome.Tags: None
