Well I did exactly what I set out not to do. I put the new seal in with the raised writing facing down... I imagine it may leak for the first few shots until it settles down. Yet again I prove to myself that I should slow down and do more.
Old seal looked like it was make of chalk- had the texture of stone...
Will get some fresh beans this weekend, dust off the grinder, and pull a few shots.

It was too much trouble to put the instant coffee in the group handle all the time!
Sad but true: A colleague and I had to clean my K3T grinder in the tea room because some numb nut put nescafe blend 43 in it >

    So - maybe youre right!

Ive never seen the word Silvia printed on it before.
And by the way it is a 2002 model. Naked PF with new handle heading my way, along with a new group seal. Where is my Super Jolly?

And another, they were reusing the coffee grounds between shots, because its such a waste just to throw them straight out!

    Nice find!

I guess somebody upgraded to a shiny new Nespresso  ;D
    LOL!

I can imagine them telling their friends "The "expresso" this thing makes is so much better than we ever got out of our old machine (using pre-ground home brand coffee)"!

Lets go one step further and say they were using ALDI coffee beans.

    Very nice find indeed.

Not saying this is the explanation - but different rellies from both sides of the family have either had jobs that involved rubbish collection after end of tenancies, or currently hold contracts for cleanup and clear ready for the next rental. The type, condition, quality and value of items (some of which family members still use years later) is just amazing.  I personally think the best find was a boxed Canon dSLR with a flat battery and no charger or lens. When we made it operational, the image count was less than 100 !

The area, type of residence and tenant income doesnt seem to matter when it comes to cutting down the stuff the tenant wants to carry to their next place.  The places that were relatively clean inside often have brand new boxed appliances piled up outside for removal. It is also common to find incomplete but perfect items presumably thought to be broken or unfixable.

Sometimes the sweetest fruit grows by the roadside !

Oh - and go for the naked pf.

    What a find!
With crusty milk on the steam wand, is it blocked up or all working fine there too?
I know the Silvia can deliver horrible coffee even with good fresh ground beans if you dont know what you are doing.
Maybe the owners were given it for free by someone who upgraded, and not knowing the value of the machine or how to use it decided it wasnt any good?
It looks like an old model. Ive never seen the word Silvia printed on it before.

Thanks guys. Yes, a decent silvia has nothing on a pod-popper- It just does it all by itself, and its so cheap like 62c a cup.
Yeh I will check out prices, maybe go straight for a naked PF. Thoughts?

What a find! I have to admit I have my own highly personalised cloud of bad luck that follows me around... :-[ So I never find anything nice.

A new handle cant cost more than $100 - so you get a decent machine for under $100 - what a win!
