  • Em6900 steam wand squirting water only,,, and other problems

    Hi guys,

I just bought second hand Em6900 coffee machine with em0480 grinder,

I knew i should not have bought it after reading so many posts about how trouble it is..

However, i did buy it and tested.

somehow for first 5 cups testing it worked fine although it was under extracting and i realised i was not grinding fine enough

i did overcome this by grinding more fine and little bit of up dosing.

although steamming was not great,, made whole lot of bubbly foam only at top..

i do produce fine cup of coffee when i use indutrial machines.

first time for home machine though,

however, after 5 cups i decided to rest and turned machine off.

when i came back and turned it on again it was on standby mode more than 30 min and would not work.

then i decided to leave it for overnight

today i tried again it worked.

but the steam wand somehow only squrts water no steam at all..

i can still make espresso and hot water wand works but only steam wand does not work.

and again after turning it off trying to turn it on again its on standby mode forever.

i am very frustrated and disapointed..

please help me out here guys..

thank you for your tolerance of my stupid second language and long story.

    Eric,

I have just had the same fault with one of my machines, I will try to have a look tomorrow, interested if anyone else has had the same problem, it is putting water through the steam system but not heating up, should be pretty easy to fault find.

looks like it is the steam thermostat, it is mounted directly onto the boiler and you have to dissasemble the machine to gain access (it is the one with the blue wires connected to it, the white round device with the white wires is the thermal safety cut out switch) will keep on pulling apart and report back. Should be just a replacement part fix.

Ok,, firstly thanks for posting again

so to fix this problem i would have to completely replace thermostat is it ??

if so,, where would i be able to get the part and how much would it cost in nz.

also if i exchange thermostat the machine and steamwand would turn of anytime i want it to ?

            Thanks for posting again

just a slight change to my original post, the faulty part on mine was in fact the Thermister, it is an additional safety device fitted on the boiler behind a little square plate that holds it in place. It is in the element circuit as is the thermostat (the little round white part), it works as a safety device in case the steam boiler over heats and the thermister opens the circuit and shuts down the steam element. I think the part number is as follows and the price from Big Wharehouse spares is about $33. THERMISTOR - STEAM EM6910 EM6910R
              Part Number 1648689

Hey Brett0004 Ive been searching around and this maybe the part I need. keen on your thoughts tho... I have the dreaded 6900 with it seems a typical problem it seems, ...it doesnt steam at all. no sound from the steam pump and of course no steam nor any drips of water. I do have the constant flashing red standby light next to other full green lights as mentioned in other posts on this site. That started happening about the same time as the steam died. its been like this for some time now, i just make expressos with it but would now like to get steam back. Any idea if this issue is likely the Steam Thermistor? how did you check and confirm yours was this part failing? In other posts Ive seen people have replaced their PCB but again Im not sure if this is the issue or how to test it? Have got a multimeter handy tho...
