  • Leaking Silvia :(

Hello all, its been a while since Ive posted here. Its unfortunately as sad post.

I have a leaking Silvia, its coming from the braided hose that runs from the OPV, but its not from the threaded connection in the OPV but from where the crimp connection is on the braid.

First of all is it fixable? Is it something i can do myself? (i am fairly technically minded) If not, can someone recommend a repair agent? I am in Melbourne Vic.

    Cheers folks

The braided hose is the line from the pump to the boiler, if its leaking between the chromed nut and the swaged end piece, then its a new hose I reckon. Its a 1/8" BSP male-male braided stainless hose, maybe 6 inches long. If you can find such a thing (Pirtek? Reece?), not too much trouble to fit it yourself.

Well youre right, the OPV is part of the same T piece. So to get at everything you need to take the back shell off the machine (two small screws at the top, centre of the sides of the machine, and one large accessed through a hole at the back under the where the water tank sits) and then the panel that holds the tank (two screws and star washers).

Is there anything else i should change/do when i have this beast apart?
This unit is 5 years old and never been serviced yet used every day since purchase.

          Cheers

            Re: Leaking Silvia

hmmm no, nothing you can really do internally. My advice would be if there are no other problems, dont go looking for them

Chances are the OPV was never calibrated (depends of course on who you bought the machine from) but if you like the way the machine behaves and everything else is working well, Id leave it alone. Make sure the boiler is fully primed after you switch the hose as well (open the steam wand and run the pump till water is ejected), the pump may take a while to draw water through again if there is air in the system.

                    Re: Leaking Silvia

*Sigh* Now she doesnt heat up..

Replaced the braided pipe... Then descaled the machine Then cleaned the shower screen. Then produced a shot.. all working at hot each time..

Went to bed and then woke up the next morning, machine on, but no heat. The unit is on a timer to turn on 45 mins before i awaken. Has been on this time for years.

Can someone recommend a repair agent here in Melbourne? I am at wits end.

                    Cheers

                      Re: Leaking Silvia

Id recommend you go back to whoever you bought it from originally, failing that most any of the Melbourne sponsors should be able to help.

I know Coffee-A-Roma in Camberwell are a registered Rancilio dealer.
