i have used tooth pick ends to quiet the side panels of my silvia. it helped tons. now i think i will get a yoga mat piece for it to sit on. love the machine, teamed with a preciso, and metropolis coffee. any other tips for quieting her down. i will not put anything inside. thanks

There is a thread somewhere here where dynamat type of material (stick on sound deadening material typically used in car audio applications) was applied to the inside of the panels (was not a sylvia, but principles are the same) which worked well.

The dynamat stuff is like a thin layer of bitumen, self sticking, and dampens the vibration of panels. The stuff this guy uses looks like a sponge, which would not be ideal if you get a leak, it would soak up and retain moisture. I would say the dynamat would work better.
I guess the source of noise is mainly 2 fold, metal panels vibrating against each other, and metal panels resonating themselves. The actual pump is not that noisy, its the vibrations from it transmitted to the machine parts that make it sound like a tractor.
