thankyou i whole heartedly agree, but i guess were not sure what we want and are still figuring this out but a lever is definitely what i would rather go with.

The PVL only seemed the obvious choice because its its more "noob" friendly and as it will be my only machine good coffee would certainly justify the expense so the sooner that happens the happier well be.

they kinda look like a chinese built gs/3 (a good look) and this whole lever romanticism should be embraced by all coffee lovers

    Hi,

I think what you need to get your head around, more than the price, is what experience of coffee making do you want. Lever is a different coffee making experience to pump.

Either way the price is easily justifiable, $4 per cup from a cafe versus $0.50 per cup from home (roasting own beans) or $1.00 per cup if you buy ready roasted. If you drink just two cups a day you will save up to $2737.50 per year. More than the cost of setup and if its a good setup it will last several years, save up to $13,687 in 5yrs. Just give those figures to your folks and its very compelling.

By far the best value machine is the one you actually use, which brings us back to coffee making experience. I have a lever machine and I absolutely love it. I used to have a pump machine and there is just no way I will ever own a pump again. Its lever all the way for me. For me lever wins because of....

Quiet operation. The sound of a pump annoyed me in the wee hours of the morning.

Cleaner operation. There is no backflushing with a lever. No need for blind filters or backflush chemicals. Cleanup is a wipe over the shower screen with a cloth and rinse out the portafilter.

I prefer the taste of lever. I found the coffee was sweeter, had more complexity that I could notice and my shots were more consistent on a lever.

I prefer the look of the lever machine.

Youll need to weigh up whats important for you in coffee making. Because when you spend that much money you want to spend it on the right things. Spend once, spend right.

Oh! And definately wait to hear back from Jack. It will be worth your while investigating the PV option. 8-)

Back again couldnt wait for reply,

i am considering pvl dual group now, purely for the occasion it might be used, and price isnt much different or so ive heard as yet to get a price for the single group.

although i thought about a bes900 as well, as its similar price and is the oppsite of what im looking at, you know pump vs lever.
i think i will definitely be more satisfied with pvl, build quality is similar (bes900 good all rounder, pvl great internals but basic and cosmetics soso), both look decent. i want pvl dual group but paired with grinder i might be in for more of an earbashing from everyone as its not cheap for a first machine.

Ive been through the calcs (not buying anywhere near as much takeaway cafes and that theyll last, hold some value down the track.) but it still doesnt get through, they cant justify i dont know if i can but would anyway

wat are other great machines for this price range (midrange) that stand above the rest?

First time buyer PVL looks the goods

    Hello new user here

I would like to purchase a PVL (single group most likely) and was wondering where other owners had sourced theirs.

I have contacted Sorrentina Coffee about a single group and am awaiting reply.

Hows the warranty on these babies and where can you service the machine. I am an Adelaidean and was definitely hoping for local pickup/servicing as its obviously quicker and for peace of mind as these babies we love and cherish aint cheap plus once i got it i wont wanna be away from it for lengths of time

This will be my first machine, but i shared the joy of my parents domestic sunbeam and am now jumping into the abyss.

thankyou for your wealth of knowledge that i have ever so slightly delved into the past couple of years.
