Let me get this sraight, JavaB, just in case I may have missed the point.

You are suggesting that people read the manual, correct?

    --Robusto
    Yeah....

I think I hid that message in my post -- fairly discreetly

          smoky,

You may find the Pin in the base of the coffee scoop. There is a rubber grommet you remove and viola, theres the pin.

Ok Im putting something out there... How often do you guys back flush your coffee machines? And when you do the backflush, do you use cleaning solution on a regular basis or just water?

After every coffee making session Ill backflush my 6910 with the blind filter and water and before finishing for the day or if i know i wont be making any more coffees for the day, Ill use detergent and backflush with that followed by a clear water backflush.

All my filters and handle etc are all completely scrubbed and rinsed and i soak all the filters and shower screen in detergent once a week.

Basically my machine never has a chance to get dirty.

I have noticed that there have been a few comments on sourness of extractions.

I quickly learnt that dirty equipment can lead to a sour taste in the cup.

            Just a thought.

              Re: Cleaning a Sunbeam EM6910

Backflushing with water only will get rid of debris, but not the oils. Do an experiment and do not backflush with chem or put descaler through for a month and then pull off the shower screen and second screen and look at build up of oils. I do the tablet backflush every week to 2 weeks depending on use and the full decale every 2-3 months to keep everything happy.

              Cheer mate.

Oh no !!! Never letting my machine get to that state.

Mine will be staying in a clean and fit state.

                  Re: Cleaning a Sunbeam EM6910

I take my shower screen off each week and give it good wash, as do I the PFs, but must say, I noticed my coffee getting that sour taste only a few weeks ago, and have had this machine for a little over 12 months, an average of 2 coffees a day brewed, so I dont call myself fastidious and have come to the conclusion to do just as I was doing each week, backflush with the tablet once every 2 weeks, and descale once every 2 months.

Heck, if it went for so long without the sour taste, figure that will be keeping it at bay.

Are you using the tablets as the detergent agent or the commercial stuff like pulycaf, caffeto etc.

I pretty much have a regime like you

                      Re: Cleaning a Sunbeam EM6910

                      I use the Caffeto.

                      Havent used the tablets.

If the unit is kept clean on a very regular basis I see there is a very limited chance of oil & residue build up.

                        Hey smoky...

Just a quick question.  Have you removed the black plastic insert at the base of the inside of the PF?

Hi chris002200; yes, took it out after the 2nd day I joined this site and saw an article on just that.

I went and ordered some tablets from our agent here in Dubbo yesterday, as this place doesnt have any thing of the kind available, let alone heard of them. Bit shocked at the price, $28 for 4 tablets; they better clean the bloody unit well for that price!

Oh, and what way does the rubber insert go in the PF when I put the tablet in and backflush? Sounds a goofy question, but as said before, never attempted this action and dont know what to expect, so any help is always appreciated :-[

My cleaning disc says "this side up" and has 4 rubber supports to hold the cleaning tablet! Hows that for marketing? Making sure you use a cleaning tablet with the correct diameter. i.e one of Sunbeams

$28.00 for 4 tablets... That sounds a little excessive.

Visit one of the site sponsors and see what they can do for you in regards to supply of detergent. You will find that a tub will be a lot more cost effective than those tablets.

With the amount that I backflush I would be broke in a matter of months.

Also do yourself a favour and get a 58mm blind filter to do your backflushing. I dont reckon that the rubber disc works that great as it lets a little of the pressure leak. They are cheap as.
