Re: what size tamper for a gaggia classic
Definitely get a Pullman - and Greg does all sizes in flat based tampers - but only 57 and 58 in convex.Originally posted by Thundergod link=1172651208/0#1 date=1172651743Dont do it!
I bought one from there and replaced it soon enough with a Pullman Tamper.
I dont think Greg does 52mm but he does do 58mm.

Also as well, coffeeparts (a sponsor here) sells very good tampers. Send them an email with your enquiry and theyll respond quickly with a suggested size etc.

Re: what size tamper for a gaggia classic
I got one off the internet and it doesnt quite fit as snug as it should. I will be investing in a pullman tamper when got some extra cash. Go for the custom made Pullman as it will fit perfectly. I got my tamper only out of necessity but am still longing for something that will be a better fit. You will probably be the same if you just buy one of the internet shelf. You will still crave that perfect fitting tamper even after you have bought one.
One another subject I have just posted my 100th Post. Yippee I am growing up and now become a Regualr Roaster.

Re: what size tamper for a gaggia classic
The Classic has a "commercial" group and portafilter... so you are looking for a 58mm tamper. However, not all 58mm baskets are created equal and some will be slightly larger or slightly smaller.Originally posted by nicholasm link=1172651208/0#0 date=1172651208Hi all, im sick of my plastic $4 Gaggia Classic Tamper and am looking to buy a new one. I had one of Greg Pullmans tampers made to fit a particular basket (a La Marzocco 18g ridged basket) and it fits like a glove. I also have a couple of 14g baskets and these are slightly larger (in diameter) than the LM basket. As a result there is more play with these baskets. (I may have to get another tamper made for the 14g basket as I use it all the time for singles) BTW, Gregs tampers are superbly finished and feel great in the hand and, as each one is handcrafted, each one is unique!

Re: what size tamper for a gaggia classic
I think the cubika hasnt got a 3 way solenoid valve.....feels cheaper and lighter...portafilter isnt that great compared to the classic. I think the classic has a brass portafilter and the cubika has a cheap and light aluminium portafilter.
