    Re: SUNBEAM 6910

I wonder if the shower screen on the 6910 is different spec to that on the 6900?

I spoke with a sunbeam rep in Melbourne just before I purchased mine, and I do recall her saying something about the grouphead being a little different.

I just measured the my 6910, it seem that the shower head protrudes about 6-7mm beyond the seal. I wonder if specs for the shower screen have indeed changed? Bassetts instrunctional video was produced using the EM6900 in 2005.

If i did dose and tamp till only a 3mm depth, I would applying another 3mm of tamp (or significant pressure)when I screw on the group handle.

    What are peoples thoughts here?

Sunbeam 6900 12 months old and still going Strong

Seems like my 6900 is ok after 12 months looks like they ironed out the bugs

Only problem I had with it was the steam knob came undone, minor really.

      Better value than a Silvia?...............
When it come to making more than 4 coffees you bet ya.

Would I buy a 6910 when this one does finally die........ most definately.

      Would I by another Silvia......no.

I would however buy a Rocky doserless over the Sunbeam grinder in a heart beat

      Cheers

yep - the Sunbeam grinder might be a problem - my brother in law is having major dramas getting a decent grind out of his. I love my Rocky and for that matter my EM.

Ive noticed that if you roast to dark you have trouble with flow being to fast. Roast just to the start of second crack and its perfect when grinder is set on 5 with a medium to light tamp. Pretty much as Allan Frew describes on his web site.

Gorilla tamps are well .................. for gorillas.

              Re: SUNBEAM 6910

Ash if you remember that is one of the things I mentioned about the course as well.
It was the current State Barista champ running our course and he was filling and tamping lighter than me and only showing a bit of metal above the filter and still getting great pours.
I have since been filling less although I think I have been slowly slipping in to old habits lately.
My problem lately has been that I have been getting more channelling in my pucks which I am not happy about. Not sure what I am doing wrong. Its not every time but prob about 50% of the time I see a bit a hole in the top of my pucks.

                RUST!!! On the espresso machine!?

                Hey peeps,

Im shocked!!! I just noticed that theres a small amount of surface rust on the cup warming plate, and a TON of surface rust on the entire side panel of the espresso machine we have here at work. Ill take a pic with my phone, and upload it tonight when I get home so I can show yas.

We only bought it 2 weeks ago, the rust on the warming plate Im guessing is from cups etc not being 100% dry, but along the side, it seems that perhaps the vapor from the steamer has left the side damp or something??

Im sooooooo shocked that this stuff hasnt been rust proofed etc.. what on earth can I do before it turns into a serious problem?

Oh, by the way.. its...... the sunbeam em6910... I know theres a lot of other topics on this specific machine, but theres nothing I can see on rust so I thought Id start a new thread.

Hi Rolley- not withstanding something nasty in your detergent or water, Id be asking Sunbeam to replace the unit. I reckon this is unacceptable....

Re: RUST!!! On the espresso machine!?

Totally! Even though "I" didnt buy it, I organised and motivated the whole team to actually buy one, so I sorta feel like a fool now! haha.

Seriously though, $600 worth, and not even rust proofed, what the hell is the go with that? True stainless steel shouldnt rust, they must have made this so cheaply, for it to get rusty so quick.

Ill see if anyone can come up with a fix, or any ideas or anything, then failing that I will definately ring sunbeam - or just ring the retailer..?

                      Thanks, R

Re: RUST!!! On the espresso machine!?

Id be just taking it back to the retailer and asking them nicely for a replacement. If they refused, then Id make a scene and have them call Sunbeam so that a 3 way discussion might take place...

Id be very surprised if Sunbeam would want that type of advertisment out in the field....

Re: RUST!!! On the espresso machine!?

I just gave my machine a quick look-over and have no signs of rust...phew! (had it since late December)

Sounds like Sunbeam need to provide you with a machine made with some actual stainless stainless-steel. It appears that youre the 1st to mention such an issue with the EM6910...lets hope youre the last.

No sign of rust on mine either so maybe you got a lemon that slipped through the cracks.
I would be trying to get it replaced.

Re: RUST!!! On the espresso machine!?

There have been many discussions about the EM6900 and EM6910 on this site. There are a lot of users of this site with EM69XX machines, including me. I have never heard anyone complain about rust! It has surely to be a one off...in fact external build quality wise they are a little tank with a great finish. I would have no hesitation in ringing Sunbeam, and if they dont replace the warming plate in a flash with no questions, then I would be very very surprised - it will not, in my estimation, take you getting up them for them to come to the party.

Cheers and let us all know how you get on.
