As for the big jug - what size is it?
only about 880ml. Its broad rather than tall, so the steam wan goes easily to the bottom if needed.

              Sunbeam em6910....

Just to finilise a couple of things...

I have been playing around with the brew temp on the em6910 the last few weeks here, I was wondering what did you guys conclude as the best temp? Wushoes, you had yrs on max (+4 degs) for the brew temp? Iv found +2 def better then standard, and +4 ok to but sometimes I get burnt coffee. Both seem better then standard to me. I only got sour with the standard temp never with +2 unless was slightly over extracted.

Also anyone who has brought a Pullman Tamper with the sunbeam... are the baskets all the same for the sunbeam? Wud mine be the same size etc as joe blogs next door? After using a new tamper at work that fits exact I found it so much easier! You dont even need to re-tamp, or polish!

Got a decent heavy tamper a month ago but its slightly smaller then the sunbeam! grr... so I have a good weight and flash tamper but have gone back to the sunbeam as its slightly tighter fit. The heavy one packs down further, tho just gotta use more weight with the plasticy sunbeam...Said 58mm to at the cafe spose I shud have tested first.....

                Re: SUNBEAM 6910

Yes Jonno, I have a pullman tamper and all the 6910 baskets from machine to machine are the same size. I asked Greg the same question and he was confident that all the 6910s hes made were all the same size (double baskets). After I got mine I did notice that the single basket was slightly (infinitesimally) larger than the double.

                  Re: SUNBEAM 6910

                  Ditto Barri

The Pullman fits my double basket like a glove but has a bit of slop in the single (~1mm). I hardly use my single now anyway, so I have no problems with the loose fit.

Havent tried upping my brew temp as yet Dennis but after reading your post Ill have a crack at upping the temp and report back with the difference (if any).

Greg made my tamper of previous specs from other 6910 baskets. No real need to send baskets but depends on which basket you want the best fit for. If mine had been made tight for the single It wouldnt fit the double. Guess its always a trade-off unless you want two custom tampers....ahh the extravagance of it all

                    • Re: SUNBEAM 6910

I have found that running my 6910 with the brew temp on max gives me better depth and flavours from my shots.

I havent experienced burnt or sour shots from my 6910 on max temp.

I personally would recommend anyone with a 6910 to bump it to +2 or +4

One comment I would make though is that by having the temp on +4 I find that the shots when pulled correctly are sweeter than on standard or +2.

                      • Em6910 - Reliability/Cost

                        Hello

I am looking at purchasing a EM6910+EM0480+EM0110 combo.

                        Part A
Reading through this and other sites, the EM6900 has a bit of a bad rep, but is the EM6910 turning into a more reliable machine. I know it hasnt been out that long to get a true evaluation, however it seems that a week with a 6900 was enough to find out that it didnt work. Other site seem to have dismissed Sunbeam as a do not touch brand, however there seems to be people on this site that are quite liking the new version. It it worth the risk?

                        Part B
The combo retail at $948. The best I have been able to negotiate is $773. Is this a realistic cost or has anyone been able to find a better retailer.

                        Cheers

                          Stealth,

                          Hi and welcome to CoffeeSnobs....

From my following of discussions on these machines as "an interested party" - not a potential purchaser....

The 6900.... If it looks like a lemon, smells like a lemon, tastes like a lemon - Its a lemon!!!! Yep that about sums it up. :

The 6910- Several members have them and are happy with their reliability and the quality of coffee they produce. Problems with the machine appear to be more about technique than build quality or reliability.

The jury is still out on long term reliability and resale value.... It will be a while before these are known. The fact that it is full of electronics (and if these fail it is totally dead) might be a concern further down the track - only time will tell. :-/

The only reservation I have with my commercial machine is also the amount of electronics...... this is a weakness - and is prone to failure - electronics + heat + moisture + steam = unreliability (but I can bypass mine and it will still work as a semi automatic ).......

So in summary the 6910 thus far seems to be a good purchase for someone who wants to extract and texture milk at the same time...... but long term - wait and see!

Re pricing - as I said, not interested in purchasing one myself- so really dont have any idea.

Ill just pop my head into this thread for long enough to say that I think that getting a grinder with stepless adjustment is pretty much essential to getting great espresso, so you might want to consider going with an iberital challenge instead of the sunbeam grinder if you can afford it.

                            Cheers,

                            Luca

As there are existing threads on this machine, I have merged it with one of those.

                                Stealth,

Id agree with Luca re the Iberital grinder for two main reasons...

As Luca said, based on other 6910 owners results - the machine is capable of quality espresso - requiring grounds with finer adjustment than the 480 can deliver. The 480 has smallish steps but a stepless grinder will give far finer adjustment - resulting in using the 6910 to its capability.

Even more of a worry is the 480s reliability..... owners are finding that it creeps up in grind size as you use it (some have even found it goes the other way!!!)..... lots have been returned - some several times before they got a "usable" one..... some CS members have even found a way to mod a brand new one so the grind size doesnt creep :-/ :-/

The 480 seems to be a good match to the 6900 in more ways than one (definitely has a hint of lemon about it :)

So if your budget can be stretched a little, the 6910 teamed up with an Iberital Challenge would be a far better combo.
