Cool - now were making up proverbs.

Mods - I vote for shutting this thread down. I doubt that it can serve any good purpose now.

Barri, youve used the words "capable" and "adequate" in relation to coffee machines several times in this thread.  Bottom line is that most of us here want much more than adequate or capable coffee.  There are plenty of other websites that will tell you that your Krups is a brilliant machine that has stood the test of time.  We wont.

If you cant tell the difference between a 6910 coffee and one from an Expobar then by all means buy the 6910, or whatever level of machine makes a coffee that is acceptable to you.  To spend more money when you cant tell the difference is certainly a waste. Again, we wont say that youve gotten the best deal because that isnt what this website is about.

At risk of bringing a flood of abuse down upon myself, you are sounding a lot like the person who moves to another country and demands that the country changes its customs to suit your beliefs.......
    Wow! Thats extremely harsh!

Using your horrible analogy then, I am moving to another country and asking the leaders of that country to be tolerant and respectful of my way of life and at the same time I will respect my new country attitudes but being in a democracy allows me to express my views that may help others.

Incidentally I didnt say the krups was a brilliant machine. It was simply reliable and produced better coffee when all the extras were removed. I am saying that the 6910 is a serious machine that is worthy of getting a better rap than it has. (Ozscott, Wushoes, Marcstock - help me out here)

As for CS wanting more than adequate or capable machine well I believe that this site is for all coffee lovers of varying degrees of wants and needs. Incidentally my budget was higher than $700 when I bought the 6910 and I could have afforded to buy an expobar but chose not to. In fact if I had my time all over again then I would still buy the 6910 for its ability to make a great espresso for a great price. CS need to be aware of this view which is shared by many others.

Viviane, Im not asking this site to say Ive got a great deal but to acknowledge that some machines not sold by site sponsors are excellent machines and more than adequate (using your terminology) for many users. Dont get me wrong, I think the sponsors do a sensational job and I have learned a lot from them but they are sometimes too quick to dismiss a viable alternative but I understand this is their livelihood.

**Viviane raises her hands slowly in the air, regretting any offence that her words caused although not retracting her post at all.**

I wonder why Sunbeam owners are so quick to see any comment about their machine as a slight. I still feel that despite repeated refusals by site sponsors to endorse "cheap" machines, they are still being asked to recommend equipment that they have no knowledge of, or confidence in.

Ah barri, we probably all agree with Mals comments - they are very different to mine and I really think you are drawing one hell of a long bow suggesting it was what you were trying to say.

If that sounds narky, it is meant to - your remark "the snobs dont take the superior high ground on their Giottos and expobars" is nothing but inflammatory. If Mal et al. posts something along the lines of asking people to settle down, please dont quote them and tell us that was where you were coming from!

    For the record,

If I had the cash, a Giotto or Expobar would be sitting on my bench, no question about it - the build quality with these are awesome... but until then, the EM6910 is the machine for me. I do believe the Giotto and the like are superior - I just dont have the spare 2.5k to spend.

The Em6910 does great espresso for the money - and the Thermoblock is SS lined which, in my view is much better option than the Gaggia family (although it does makes quality espresso) with the Aluminium boilers. I still question the use of Thermoblocks for steam though.

I do think the sponsors do a fabulous job here and given that they are "passionate" about quality espresso is high on there agenda, makes their opinions worth listening to.

    Marc

The main point is that youre not going to get a recommendation for a Sunbeam from the site sponsors. Theyre not dealers of that sort of merchandise.

Another point is that there are options for those with limited budgets. However, you dont necessarily require a machine to provide you with good coffee.

We all proudly defend our machines. Some of us a bit too proudly.

Ill be surprised to see a cafe with multiple 6910s. $1500 is quite inexpensive for two groups.

    Look guys,

Because we are all individuals, and allowed to be..... there is always going to be a difference of opinion about hardware and its really great to read spirited debate about the pros and cons being put forward by the wide range of protagonists here at CS. But, I really think a lot of you are missing the point of what CS is all about.... We are about the Coffee, first and foremost; everything else is ancillary.

I have never been one for bright, shiny hardware of any kind..... have always preferred passion, purpose and design over gloss. That is why I am superlatively happy with my little 20+ year old Bezzera; it suits my psyche and it is capable of producing fantastic coffee so long as I do my bit. Im not fussed at all if others can not see the beauty that I behold in my little Bezz but I am also willing to sing its praises to anyone who shows the slightest inkling of interest.

In the end, the hardware is not important, it just represents a few links in the chain of achieving the best quality coffee brew that makes us happy and like the myriad range of hardware we all own, one CSers poison is another CSers nectar of the Gods..... Thankfully, we are all different and as some wise person once said, Vive la Difference!

    Cheers,
    Mal.
At last! This is where Im coming from as well Mal but I couldnt quite get my point across.

As long as the snobs dont take the superior high ground on their Giottos and expobars but instead provide balanced views, like you just have Mal, then this site will continue to provide all users great advice.
