    Re: EM6910 Naked PortaFilter

    Ben,

Youre looking at $130 direct from Sunbeam or a Sunbeam recommended service centre... Theres no other PF that fits. There was talk of the Naked being made available for $80, but that talk hasnt been confirmed...

seems expensive..... especially if you pay to get someone to do it for you.

      oh well.

        Hi

Saw the sunbeam ad last night - pretty cool, so mailed Sunbeam today about Naked Portafilters and got the following response this afternoon:

"We will have the naked filters although not until
        early next year.
The normal filter handles can be ordered in by
        your nearest Sunbeam service centre
List of agents is on our website under service
        they will advise cost."

              hi egene
just found this thread and if you want to take your existing pf to get machined then...

              "ok,
i found the details of the guy who cut my pf for $40!!!
His names Clive and he works in South Oakleigh in Melbourne (hes the manager) in a shop called Hanrahans.03 9544 1477.
i can recommend his work and i think his price was very reasonable!"

              happy cutting

                Re: EM6910 Naked PortaFilter

But to buy another Sunbeam handles cost over a $100 and then to get it machined another $40, ouch thats going to be too expensive.

                Anyone with any other ideas?

If you dont care too much about the appearance being perfect, you could buy a second PF and take to it with a hole-saw. Its been done before...

                      E-Gene,

You would have to be lucky - very lucky.

Only genuine Sunbeam PFs fit..... and until a unit fails (out of warranty) and the owner sells off the bits.... you wont get one from that source.

For a while Sunbeam asked for just the base unit to be sent back if faulty.... and they sent a whole new unit. Some lucky people got a spare PF that way (even noticed a couple for sale)..... but that was some time ago....

Might just have to be $100 for a new one..... or forget the idea. (By the way commercial machine naked PFs are about $80 for an after market - but not for a Sunbeam)

I dont mind paying $80 for one but by the looks of it, its going to be twice that.

                          Re: EM6910 Naked PortaFilter

I own a sunbeam, and had been thinking about the mod for a while. I called sunbeam to see if they would sell me one, and they told me they dont sell to individuals, but asked my address. They they gave me the closest parts dealer, who sold me one for just over $80. I took to it with a 52mm hole saw, and cleaned the edges with my dremel, this is the result... Im really happy with it, and think it was well worth the money, and doing it myself gave me much more satisfaction than waisting a further $40 for a job not much better than my own...

                          Nice job Iconiq.

It looks better than my naked I got from an online retailer!

                          How long did you take?

                            Thanks, I like it!

It took me about 10 minutes to get through it with the hole saw, and I spent about half an hour polishing the edge up...

Cool, do you think that you could do one for me and Ill pay you for it? Unfortunately I dont have a hole saw to do it myself.
