  • removing gaggia classic spout

    Can anyone help.

The spout will not come off my gaggia classic portafilla.
I guess it is gummed up as I am sure it is a removeable model - made in 2003.
Is there a surefire way way of doing this?

    All help gratefully received.

“Give me a lever long enough and a fulcrum on which to place it, and I shall move the world.” ~ Archimedes

If you are sure it is removeable then you need leverage.
Also wrap the spout in something to prevent scratching.
If you can secure the handle in a vice or similar (also suitably wrapped) then you should able to remove it.

Are you sure you are turning the right way and not tightening it?

Yep they deffinately come off, as Thundergod said, all you need is enough leverage.

Just one question though, why do you want to take if off?

If you are just looking to clean out the spout, a good soak in espresso machine cleaner should do the trick. If youve got a pipe cleaning brush (or even an old toothbrush) handy you can have it good as new in no time.

One other thing, if you do unscrew the spout, they dont seem to line up properly when you screw it back on - you have to screw it up tighter than it was originally, else it works its way off. End result of this for me was screwing it back on extra extra tight (lines up properly again now) and not taking it off again.

      Long story short, dont bother.

            Re: removing gaggia classic spout

Yeah mine doesnt line up properly since I took it off the first time.
I think it had some sort of glue holding it in place which I cleaned off the first time.
I havent tried teflon tape to help realign it as its not too bad.

yep, the classic is about $600.

I wouldnt bother removing the spout. Soak it in some espresso clean and it will be fine.

                  Re: removing gaggia classic spout

Sorry I devalued the Classic. I guess I was working on what I paid for it rather than the retail price.
Anyway, I have decided that removal is probably going to cause more problems than it solves and I will soak the portafiller and spout in some espresso cleanser.
