Oh wow, that is a very generous offer. I love the pay-it-forward thing happening.

But, im not sure about the manually work like you said Dennis "bit of physical exercise",

how about this one, http://www.sunbeam.com.au/products/product_details.cfm?rec_id=587&sec_id=79&home_id=2 is that good enough?

I live in Riverwood by the way, so its kinda close to ya.

P.s are we all at work? I am
This one looks OK to me for te $s and probably a good match for the machine you like.

And no, Im not at work today, and suggest you get back to it, otherwise may end up not being able to afford the beans, let alone the machine. ;D

Re: Best price for Sunbeam EM6910

I recently bought mine for $630 plus $30 cahsback so $600 neat. Sounds like others have done a sweeter deal than me (for reference Im in Perth).

I went to the SB Coffee appreciation course which was free with the purchase. If I was to buy the course myself it would have cost $150 so all in all the EM6910 is a good deal. By the way the professional baristas could do wonders with the machine.

However, temper my enthausiasm for SB EM6910 with the fact I am fairly new to the black art of espresso.

If you do go the EM6910 route go for the training as it was actually quite good.

I thought the review on EM 6910 v Silvia was great very informative but i cant seem to find anyone selling it for less than $700 in NSW.

                  Gday Darbys,

Welcome to CoffeeSnobs [smiley=thumbsup.gif]. I wouldnt worry about it too much, there always seems to be a Sale going on at one of the Franchise or Chain stores somewhere, just a matter of biding your time Id reckon . An alternative though (if its still available) is the one for sale in the 4-Sale Category here..... might be a consideration?

                  Mal.

Thanks for this, I have sent the seller my EOI. Unfortunately I cant bid my time for too much longer as I am trying to get my wife a coffee machine for her birthday coming up in a couple of weeks.

Thanks very much for pointing me to the 4-sale thread by Stew.  I picked it up today from Stews place and I am sure my wife will be pleased with it when she sees it in a couple of weeks time.  At the moment, I have hidden it in one of the kids wardrobe so I hope she doesnt see it.  Two weeks is a long time though for something that big not to be discovered.

My wife and I are complete newbies at making espresso and I let Stew knows about it too.  But we love our coffee, wife started making those coffees that you cooked on a stovetop coffee maker recently using pre-ground GJ coffee and I have to say I really enjoyed it much more than Nescafe Blend 43!!!  I am sure the Sunbeam EM6910 will be another massive step-up.

Stew is a real gentleman and very patient too in answering many newbies questions I keep throwing at him.  He took the time explaining some basics to me.  He even made me a cuppa on his "expensive" glittering Giotto on the spot and I am sure just remembering what he did will be invaluable when it comes time for me to make my first cup of coffee on the EM6910.

I will have to go out and get a SS milk jug for frothing the milk before her birthday and I take it this is available from any department store or do I need to go to a specialty coffee place to get them? Is there any other essential accessories I should be considering?

Is the EM0480 really the best value for money grinder out there for someone on a budget like me?  I have read on your forum that it makes a mess when spouting out the ground coffee.  This is very much a concern for me purely because my wife is a cleanliness freak in her kitchen and I think she might get "turned off" by a grinder that makes a mess in "her" kitchen if you know what I mean.  Then again I have seen the milk carton mods that many forum members have made, perhaps this is something I should do to avoid/minimise the mess.  Any other suggestions people?

                      Thanks again
                      Stephen

Re: Best price for Sunbeam EM6910

                        Gday Stephen,

Wow, didnt waste any time there mate , I think you got a real good buy there and Im sure your wife will be stoked 8-).

About the only advice I could offer now, is with the grinder and basically you need to get the best one that you can afford. The EMO480 is ok-ish as an espresso grinder but in my view and that of many others, the true entry level espresso grinder is the Iberital Challenge Doserless. It has infinite adjustment re grind size and is very good value at the entry price of around the $300 mark. Id talk to a couple of the site sponsors and visit them if possible to have them demonstrated so that you can see what we all talk about re the "quality of the grind".
Regarding the "mess".... Yeah, you do get a bit of a mess but at home here, I just sit the grinder on one of those flexible cutting mats that you can get from BigW or K-Mart, about four or five in a packet for five or six dollars and all different colours, so no trouble matching the decor. After every session I just slide the mat out from underneath the grinder and tip the loose grounds into the bin.... all done and too easy .

As youve probably gathered, trying to get the best out of your lovely ladys new espresso machine is going to require a grinder straight up so if its not in the budget prior to the birthday coming around, Id try to make it as soon as possible after that.... makes a HUGE difference. Anyway mate, you and your wife have got an interesting journey towards the attainment of coffee nirvana ahead of you and Im sure it will be very enjoyable,

                        Cheers,
                        Mal.

I just about clicked on all the "Site Sponsors" link and from what I can tell, none of them are based in Perth?  There is reference to a perth coffee specialty shop called Epic under the "Pullman Tampers" sponsor link but the link only mentions that Epic sells Pullman Tampers. So I dont know if they have a Iberital Challenge Doserless grinder to demo to me?  Perhaps I should give them a call sometimes next week in any case.

Sounds like you have a Sunbeam EM0480 coffee grinder yourself if you are taking steps to minimise post-grinding mess?

I think Mal has a Rocky. If you can stretch to a better quality grinder than the Sunbeam I would heartily reccomend it. When I first started stage 2 of my espresso coffee journey (if I dont call stove tops stage one!) I moved from a Sunbeam Ristretto machine paried with a Delonghi KG100 grinder up....this site gave me the best bit of advice that I could have ever taken in this journey and that was to get the best grinder I could (not perhaps) afford. I took the advice and go the Rancilio Rockey which is a little tank. Please consider this type of advise that I heartily endorse, because having a really good grinder makes all the difference. It will transform the EM into a very consistent winner.

I have the grind down pat for my current roast and consistently dose and tamp so that the extraction is one to two seconds either side of 30 seconds and the extraction guage is in the upper brown (at about 2.00 on a clock face) and the pours are tiger stripped and have a great consistent taste. I would not be producing that, with such consistency, without a good grinder. My brother in law has the EM grinder and it is not consistent.

Go with Mals suggestion...but if you caaannnn stretch it go the Rocky.

Cheers - plenty of people here to assist with getting the best fom your EM69.

Silly me, it was your post that I saw that refers to Epic and I just assume that it is a coffee specialty shop that sells coffee equipment.

Btw, I saw one of your "Pullman Tamper" at Stews place when I picked up his EEM6910 and it sure is a beauty.  He even had it sitting on some sort of special rectangular stand which I assume is another coffee accessory.

Back to the grinder question, does anyone else here knows where I can go to see this entry level Iberital Challenge doserless grinder?

This Rocky grinder that was mentioned, how much is it?
