Re: For the adventurous Silvia owner
Pretty easy actually. I did similar things using the CAN network/protocol at uni. And you can get modules that do different things.
We wrapped the C drivers in Java and made a little server app.

Re: For the adventurous Silvia owner
Im considering doing something similar to my own silvia, as I am taking a course in uni which uses a board that has a very similar language to the arduino (you can get the arduino, to do the job, for about $50 compared to $400). Probably wont mount inside the unit but outside like other more conventional PID. Should be neat. One of the most difficult tasks seems to be tuning the PID but according to those who have built them they are pretty damn accurate (to within .1*C)
Wouldnt use it to get an automated pour in the morning, but I will put a timer on. We currently do this (using a wall socket timer) so the silvia can sleep overnight but is on half an hour (nice and hot) before any of us get up needing coffee.Originally posted by russellb link=1208760780/0#0 date=1208760780Hi all
Just today I came across what must approach the "ultimate" modding of a Silvia:

or http://tinyurl.com/44sbmr if you have trouble with wrapping.
Alright, I think this was an electronics exercise, rather than serious coffee geekery. None of us would put our coffee in the portafilter before going to bed, just so we could automatically get a quick pour into a cold cup in the morning.
A bit of fun, anyway.

Once you have the board wired in this shouldnt be relatively hard to do - im considering using bluetooth to connect the silvia to the home network and hosting to the net so she can be turned on/off via the web.Originally posted by Dennis link=1208760780/0#1 date=1208761833Thanks for sharing Russell - that is fun to watch!
I think a while back someone posted something where they were able to phone their machine so that it would be warmed up by the time they got home. tres cool!
