Well, mine doesnt have a hole in it, and it shouldnt either.
BeanMonkey every one of them that Ive seen has the hole in it.

    AngerManagement are you reading this?
    Please confirm.

the machine is not designed to use a blind filter
blocking water supply for any extended period may cause internal leaks in the joints

the disc supplied only works with tablets, and doesnt overload the system
using the disc you will find some water will escape from the PF
The above quote is from a Sunbeam repair agent.
Never seen one with out a hole and as I understand it from the SB contacts they should all have one..

As we know a true blind filter does not, but teh Em6910 is not a true high end unit and does not support teh uses of a BLIND filter.....

Maybe BM has a new release Em6910 that does not confirm to the usual models that HN and others sell.

It was frothing like a rabid dog using the gray disc and running out of the handle.
      Its expected.

Read the Instruction Book - page 31 Point 8. "Place a sufficiently large container under both pouring spouts."

              OK OK OK.

So, I wont use a proper blind filter then. Thanks for the tip. Was given before, but the same tip coming from multiple sources confirm this tip.

Re-checking my grey disc, it does have a 1mm hole in the center.

What I found was that the cleaning tablets didnt help my case, and thinking about it, the machine was probably blocked with the crumbley stuff off the group head and not coffee residue. I had spent ages cleaning up the crumbley stuff that was ceramic like.

              Anyway, its all sorted now.

Re: My Sunbeam EM6910 1 Yr Old Today !

Methinks 2MCM is on the lets bag the 6910 as much as possible train because hes dropped into just about every 6910 thread and peppered in the past 48 hours! :-? Id like to set you a challenge in that you start selling a espresso machine for $700 that can steam and pour a shot at the same time, then throw in a completely free grinder for two months every 12 months or so, and a free coffee course also held in most capital cities around Australia every month in order to teach you about fresh beans, storage, cleaning and milk texturing...

Yes, they have their faults and yes, they are not a true italian made espresso machine, but their biggest and best quality is that theyve started a heck of a lot of people off on a coffee journey, such as myself, that may not have otherwise have done so because they couldnt afford a Silvia & Rocky or better and given them a taste for a decent cup of coffee. Only 12 months ago I classed a McCrappe coffee as being a great drop and sent me on a journey to spend a huge amount of money only a couple of months ogo in pursuit of coffee nirvana.

Okay, botty smacking over for the moment...

kaffineaddict, well done on the 6900 - thats a great news story. Insofaras places to buy beans, there are a couple of great ones around your area, I believe - possibly not locally grown, but definitely locally roasted. DiBellas is one that has a great reputation and is also a Site Sponsor. AM might have a few more up his sleeve that he can recommend also, but you can also get awesome roasted beans direct from BrownBay and they are usually at your doorstep after a day or two if you dont want to drive all over town.

Or you can get green beans and start roasting your own!

BeanMonkey - good to see you getting rid of that true blind filter: Id worry for your machine otherwise! As the others have said, the 6910 is built to be cleaned a certain way, to their specifications, and if you go blatantly against what they say specifically you shouldnt do, youre only causing yourself grief in the long run...and possibly a thread likewise slamming the 6910 further on down the track through possibly no fault but your own.

And congrats on the birthday, HG - heres to a great party: break out the biscotti and rustle yourself up a Tiramisu in celebration (best non-drink way of using espresso, if you ask me!!!)

Loves ya all...(takes her cranky disposition back to watching the television - hey, what can I say, five episodes of Torchwood to catch up on!)

;D Hoyks...Ill pop some different vinyl on then...

For mine, if you want espresso and steam at the same time, the 6910 is in a league of its own. Its just a shame that so many have failed and that owners are left without coffee- sometimes for weeks- a not negotiable for me...

In addition, the recent Sunbeam email floored me....That said, its still a very good machine for the spend.

Im really looking forward to having a play with the new Breville which sounds like it might be some fearsome Sunbeam competition...

Hehe...I think Sunbeam (GUD Holdings) recently purchased just a tad over 19% of Breville.

Is there any more news on this new Breville unit I have heard people talk about? Cost, name, release date, type of machine, quality of build, are Brevilles service department any better, etc?

Darn, wheres that studded dog collar when I needed it!

Okay, Ill behave myself now... ;D

I saw one of the new Brevilles at the CafeBiz in May and Breville were certainly pushing them there. They looked like theyd be quite good competition (albeit 81%), but didnt see it in action and havent seen any real reviews on them so far - Ive been waiting for them to pop up in this price bracket but its been all quiet so far.

The one thing I can think might be a detractor is the in-built grinder and I say it for this reason. If a person was looking for a coffee machine with an in-built grinder and found this one for $700.00, they would probably be the sort of person that would probably just fork out a little bit more and buy a (*gag*) automatic coffee machine with a handy-dudey little milk bubble maker device off to one side a-la the Saecos. We know they are completely different machines, but Mabel and George probably dont and just see it as a Fully Auto gone wrong.

Just my gut instinct and I could be totally wrong, though. I sort of hope they do take off because its another player to add to the encouraging the public into CoffeeSnobbery.
