I have a very interesting finding. I cleaned the shower screen this morning. I noticed the shower screen sit ~5mm into the basket. I found out by re-inserted both shower screens back to the seal and leave it on top of the basket.

It is simply because we are using a different grinder~~~
So you were using your Mazzer Mini, not your EM0480.... thats not fair ;D
Ha~~~my em0480 is my syphon grinder now.

    Tony,
did you have any problems fitting the new collar? I am pretty sure mine is worn out as I have put a new group head seal and the porta filter still goes quite a long way past 6 oclock.
This will teach me not to be heavy handed, machine is about 2yrs old.
I didnt fit my collar by myself. I took it to the service agent

That looks like a good extraction rate. And Id be judging the pressure and temperature (in the absence of real instrumentation, and probably even in the presence of real instrumentation) on the results in the cup.

    Sweet sounds right to me.

    Greg

ps--does your sig line indicate a RED Reg Barber???
    OPS~~tapo~~I mean "Reg"~~hahaha

    Hi AM:
This picture can clearly see the pressure gauge. Just wanna ask, did i put too much pressure to the machine? Though this shot turns out really sweet.

I use a finer grind :-) But the dosing looks OK...

I have called Sunbeam customer service and they will be sending me some washers. Ill try my hand in installing it next week when I receive them.

In the mean time, thats a beautiful rosetta leaf you got there, Sugilun. I could never get that fine microfoam at all. My milk froth always come up thick. That cofee grind you got in the above pictures do appear finer than mine, though cannot 100% certain just by looking at them.

You need to persevere, only use fresh beans, store them in an airtight container  and ideally grind as required.  Watch the DVD for clues, and if its still on offer attend the free barista class that Sunbeam runs - very worthwhile.

I also have the EM480 and have had to remove a couple of washers because I couldnt get a fine enough grind.  Speak to someone at Sunbeam on their 1800 number for directions - very good support and advice is available.  The EM480 grinder is not consistently calibrated in the factory which is unforgiveable but theres an easy fix as explained above.  Sunbeam sent me a pack of ground coffee that I could use as a reference point (I ask ed for this) in view of the fact I had to remove the washers.  After all, why should you waste your own coffee until you get the grind right.

Are you tamping the coffee correctly?  I was advised to tamp the coffee in 2 stages ie 3/4 full and full.  Made a big difference.  So you need to get the grind right and also the tamping pressure.

I only achieve good microfoam when using fresh full cream milk (UHT ruins a good coffee).  Too bad if you insist on skinny milk - Ive given up.
