although sometimes the blind seems to hold more pressure than other times...
Make sure that you havent got coffee grinds between the disk & the basket.
At the Sunbeam course they got you to backflush twice, cleaning underneath the disk between each flush

Grinder around 9-12 depending on different days.
    Started around 15 when new

Anyway, Id be curious to see a comparison of all the settings people use on the em6910. I can see them sprinkled though many threads, but no single comparison. Am I missing it? Or should we start a new thread EM6910 Owners: Compare your settings. or something like that.

Ive just added mine as they currently stand, to my sig.
If you want - go for it. People may respond, or they may not.

Bear in mind that it changes over time/ different bean so the thread could get quite messy and confusing for a new person.

I notice you have picked up the styrofoam cup mod for the grinder - killer aint it? 8-)

We started around 15 when new, but when Mrs cksyd did the sunbeam course we then found ourselves around 9-12, for a better extraction and less updosing, not through wear and tear.

Is that your case as well shawty, or has it just moved down over time?

        How old is your rig?

Only a couple of months old
Im hoping it may have just settled in but maybe my technique has changed over time as well.
I do use both baskets as well and rather than change the grind (I used to grind coarser for the single to get the same pour rate, I now dose lower than the double (down to the black handle) and still get a good pour. I think the single basket really needs a larger hole area to make it the same. I know most here say to not use the single but I feel it works quite well.

Re: Another Newbie wt EM6910 - Tips & Cleaning?

Yeah we use the single and double all the time - me double, she single  ;D

We also find exactly the same thing, that a coarser grind is needed for the single. We also do the same, just dose slightly differently.

I think the dont use single basket relates to the Sylvia rather than the SB

Re: Another Newbie wt EM6910 - Tips & Cleaning?

All very good information in regards to cleaning, the only other thing is to remove the shower screen with a screwdriver every month or so and remove any residual build up. This is much less likely to happy if you routinely backflush with water after each session.

I use cafetto and its much better bang for buck but make sure you flush it out completely as it can build up internally and cause blockages. You only need a VERY little amount of it each time.

Sunbeam tablets can be found in Myer and DJs too.

Love Epic, I highly recommend the latte art class too :-)

Ummm, the instructions tell you to do this when you descale and I told Dave Inc that I descale once a month... :-?

Re: Another Newbie wt EM6910 - Tips & Cleaning?

Well, jumping in on this thread, my cleaning routine was as follows:-

Chemical backflush once per month, shower screen removal and scrub in the intervening fortnight so it got a clean every two weeks. This was sufficient, I found, to keep the machine lovely and clean and a lot cheaper than once a week! I think it was pretty well the recommendation in the SB manual but without the screen removal part (which means also that your warranty is covered), which I learned by playing around and then subsequently found out TG & AM recommended it also.

Descaling was a once every three month job, but it can all depend on where you are and how hard your water is. We are fortunate in Newcastle that our water is reasonably soft, so possibly not required as much as in Sydney?

                  Cheers
                  Di

                    Hello Di

Yeah as I said earlier, my cleaning regime is probably over the top, and Im a little bit crazy ;D

Im sure, or I hope, everyone chooses a system that works for them and works for the machine.

The bottom line for us was the guys at the SB course saying if you dont look after it, it will last 6 months.

Your system looks good too, and I have no idea on water quality, trust me

                    Chris

Its good to see a few different variations on the cleaning regime, I guess everyone has their own style.

Thats a good point shawty, it could well have been the issue.

Ive now managed to give the water flushing a little more of a go, and it seems to be working better now. Checking under the blind seems to help it keep better pressure, however I still dont get anywhere near the redline. Ill be trying the chemical clean after Ive had a coffee later today.

In other unrelated good news, Ive managed to find a very old Black and Decker Hot n Pop! So, I should be able to have a go at home roasting as soon as I get hold of some green beans. ;D

You should NOT be aiming for the RED line... Too many people get confused and then go off on a tangent and cause their machine problems..

                            1: Do teh SB training..
2: The rubber blind is not the every thing and depending on you PF baskets... can give diferent readings.

Do a search on SB sweet spot (by me) and you will have a better understanding of what is going on...

At the end of the day.... the gauge can be any where - depending on beans / grind / dose / tamp and what you want from it...

Two of mine never get over 12:00 one get to about 2 and another red lines... Same tamp / beans / grind etc.... Do I care - NO..... It is about what produces the result I want.
