    Re: Backflush Miss Silvia?

Until you get your own, quality espresso grinder you will just be playing at espresso. First, if you can get a good pull with coffee ground off-premises, you should head for the nearest casino, because you are chuck-full of luck. Second, once coffee is ground it has about twelve good, fresh minutes (on a good day) before it is too stale to be used for espresso. For me, I grind per shot and it has about one minute between grinder and extraction to live.

The espresso machine is an accessory to the grinder.

I have made some very drinkable espresso using a Rancilio Rocky and a Krups 863 espresso machine I bought, used, for about $7.

Get thee off to a shopkeepers establishment in the village and barter for thine own grinding device, forthwith.

      kel,

as has been suggested if you can pick up a good grinder (at least a Rocky but could try a 0480), it will transform your shots, but until you get one and have a play and experimenting you wont fully understand how much of a difference it makes to your coffee!!
I had a 4800 cheap espresso machine, and then I upgraded to a Silvia & Rocky combo, but tried my old machine with the grinder and it made such a massive difference!
If you can steal or borrow a friends grinder and have a play at home with your Silvia and then you can see for yourself

Ok, you convinced me, went with the Rocky. There were cheaper, but might as well spend a bit more and be satisfied with the purchase.

Still havent received the other supplies yet though...I hate the post sometimes!

rocky will be great for your silvia, mine is. but if the grind is to fine i would be making sure with a thicker grind it speeds it up a bit

+1 here on the Rocky. Mine is and I reckon its good enough for your next espresso machine upgrade.

agree completely with the posts above, had a silvia and rocky (doseless) combo now for almost five years and been very happy with the results. also agree with the back flushing, i do it with water once a day (min) and do a chemical back flush once a month.

                      Re: Backflush Miss Silvia?

Did some cleaning with some Cleancaf, got some nice brown gunk out of the machine, changed out the screen, ran several reservoirs of water through, I think this will make a difference.

I didnt realize, when I bought it, that Cleancaf was more of a annual type of cleaner, so Ill purchase a more general cleaner to drop into my portafilter later.

My Rocky hasnt arrived yet, but it should be here Friday. Thats what I"m very excited about!

Youll be very pleased Im sure

Maybe a little patience as you experiment with dose, grind and tamp, but you will get there.

                              Have a great weekend
