I have been researching my purchase for the past few weeks on these pages and was convinced that the Silvia / Rocky combo was the way to go, so many glowing reviews.
I noticed that Grinders were running the 08 model out at 699 but you have to order them, its a bit of a pain...so i thought, no worries I am sure Jetblack will price match , especially if I am buying a grinder, tamper, thermometer coffee AND I do their barista course....well to my amazement they wouldnt price match ! So I turned the car around (by the time I called them I was half way across the harbor bridge, cash in pocket) and spent the rest of Sunday sulking!
In the meantime I came across a post by Rusty who said that the EM6910 was in his opinion (and this site is all about opinions only) was a better choice than the Silvia. So I contacted him and after a few emails decided that Id try the Sunbeam combo - I live just near a Sunbeam outlet so the machine and the grinder was $700 all up, so quite a saving.
I have to say that I am VERY VERY impressed at the shots I am getting. A Zillion times better than any of the cafes around here and this is with beans from Tobys Estate that are stamped July 29, so wait til i get some fresh babies ! I ordered some Brown Buys last night
I have been fully warned that this machine wont last as long as the Silvia, but its got a very solid feel about it.
the grinder is a little on the plastic side, and makes a hell of a mess, but the grind is very good.
As a footnote to the story, Jetblack got back to me the next day and said that they would do a price match after all, but by then id already made my mind up on the Sunbeam.
Thanks Rusty for you help - here is a vote for the Sunbeam combo....and I will do the FREE barista course!
