I was at someones house the other day and saw they had a Silvia. I asked them what beans they used and (horror!) they said they dont have a grinder and they use pre-ground beans from Aldi! ....
A quote I coined: "I liked it better when computers were expensive and only literate people bought them."

You really should give it a go and bring your grinder over there, but after that many years brewing an espresso-like beverage with pre-ground, do not be at all surprised if they prefer their espresso to that made using fresh ground.

I have read that the instant coffee craze took off in the USA just after WWII when the soldiers came back home. They had been given instant coffee in their rations and for many it was their first exposure to coffee. They learned to prefer that taste and brought their preferences back home with theme.

I told them they should get a grinder and fresh beans but they looked sceptical...I left their house feeling like I should take my grinder and beans around and let them taste the difference. On a positive note they have had their Silvia for 8 years and have never had a single problem with it.

Once you have tried the good coffee you will be wondering why you didnt just grind the other stuff up for fertilizer earlier...I am a total noob at coffee-making and have had a huge improvement in my coffee since tossing out the old stuff.
Going to ask the sister-in-law if she wants it otherwise, garden here it comes. ;D

I cant believe people dont have at least a plunger for guests.
Ive loaned a colleague at work my EM0450 to grind some whole beans he bought from Max Brenner.
Hed asked me if Id grind them for him and I said I might do half at a time.
Then I decided that Id lend him the grinder.
He used a plunger with instructions Id given him and reports back that "it was the best coffee hes ever made at home".
I cant vouch for the freshness of the beans as there were no dates on the packet.
However, they had to be better than the pre-ground hes used to.

I bought a 1kg bag of Cibo beans from one of their outlets last week and they tasted horrible. To save wasting more money i decided to stick with Lazumba (latino) beans as they taste terrific.

Yes, that terrible moment when you go to someones house and you dont see a coffee machine on the bench and they offer you a coffee and you have to say no thanks! I cant stand tea so am often left saying "Im so thirsty, just a water would be great thanks". I cant believe people dont have at least a plunger for guests. Oh dear, I think I have officially become a coffee snob!

Unfortunately my reputation preceeds me, so people apologetically say they cant offer me coffee.
