  • sunbeam 6910 & 0480 bargin!

hey guys as has been discuss here previously, I just say last night on the tv that Sunbeam is doing there buy a 6910 and get a free 0480 grinder.

If anyone is in the market for one, its a good time. Spoke with a salesman about it today said only running for the month of October.

    just some possibly helpful news

Thats true - just purchased a set today from Hardly Normal. The flyer in the stores says the promotion is valid until Dec 24. I dont know if it involves a redemption from Sunbeam from other stores, but HN had the grinders as well, so I picked up up both the 6910 and the 480 and got a good discount too.

My only problem at this stage is that I ended up with two 480s, as I bought one 3 weeks ago to go with my then working Aldi machine. In the meantime, the Aldi machine kicked the bucket this morning, so I ended up getting the 6910 and the free grinder. I guess the spare 480 might end up on evilbay.

The S/B outlet store does the 6910 for $550 so I guess with the grinder, it works out the same? This is an ongoing price, just in case anyone misses the current sale.

As someone who has just been through this, id HIGHLY recommend getting a better grinder. My 0480 died after 2 weeks use. S/B replaced it but I then sold it and bought a rocky.

        Bad luck with the 0480.

I replaced my 0450 fairly swiftly to pair with the 6910 at work and recently sold it to a work colleague for use at home with his plunger.

Now Im working on him to by an Aeropress for a cleaner cup as the fines can be annoying.

If you can get a bargain price, where the grinder is genuinely free, then take the deal and flog the grinder, putting the cash towards a better grinder.

I just saw the shops are doing this deal, Ive been waiting for this for a while.
But, now I have noticed the price has gone up from around $600 to the rrp of $799
So I dont think you are getting the grinder for nothing, I will keep looking for a better price though

            Well yes and no....

RRP has been $799 for a while now and, while discounts can be had, with an offer like that (free grinder) you may not get such a big discount if any.

That is why we didnt wait for the offer - got the two for $750 early this year. Looked at the price and figured it was as good as the redemption offer anyway, without having to wait for the grinder to turn up.

I just picked up the 6910 with free grinder for $620
              so I am very happy ;D ;D
So it does pay to shop around as a lot of places would only sell it for $799 as they said you are getting a grinder worth $220 :-?

Its interesting how many different deals can be had but many people soon figure out that as a great machine as the 6910 is the grinder is really at the low end of the market but i have found with some silicone tape and the odd mod u can turn this chucky stepped grinder into an alright though noisy stepless, though calibration can take alitte while.

Was totally surprised at the whisper quiet operation of the rocky, might be an upgrade i will make sooner rather than later

                  Re: sunbeam 6910 & 0480 bargin!

I have just upgraded from the Lux (sounds like a 747 landing) to an Isomac Granmachinino (went from 82-89db over 3 months from new) to a Rocky. The rocky is significantly quieter and what really surprised me was the improvement in shot quality over the other two, especially the Isomac. I am now a believer! Go the Rocky! I only drink 1-2 coffees/day at home so anything larger is really overkill.

Hi guys , just wondering how the 6910 owners find their machines.
I had a silvia/rocky combo & miss it dearly but not the finicky silvia :P
I have heard that they are less fussy to use than silvia would be good to hear some advise on this as I am seriously looking at this combo.
I currently have a Gaggia Titanium which gives average coffee , but not the depth of flavour I need.

                    cheers

GP did a great review on the two machines...

                      http://www.coffeetamper.com.au/kb/reviews/sunbeam-silvia/

In addition a review on teh grinder can be found here..

                      http://coffeesnobs.com.au/YaBB.pl?num=1138058473;start=all

However it is like so many things... What suits one may not suite another...

With that in mind and the issue that you raise as a personal dislike - "finicky" Then the EM6910 is much better or one might say more forgiving.. Sure you can PID the siliva, but that then adds to the cost and for a few extra $$$ you could go to the next level up..

There is so much on the EM6910 on CS you could read for days..

Both systems have their staunch supporters and those that dislike with a passion.. Read the reviews etc.. Make a call as to what will provide you and family etc with functionality and go for it.. They both need tlc.. Just different.

If ya want to go up a notch on both... Then look at the sponsors as they have a couple of combo units and they appear to be doing well and providing great cups of coffee.

                        Re: sunbeam 6910 & 0480 bargin!

I called Sunbeam last week - they said the offer is from selected stores only and the grinder is from the store stock, not by redemption from Sunbeam as previously. The TV ad states the grinder offer is "while stocks last".
I then tried Bing Lee - they werent aware of the offer.
Where did you purchase your machine/grinder from latte girl?

                        Thanks,
                        Rob

                          Hi Rob
I got it from Joyce mayne in Albury. They did say there it was only till they ran out of stock.
Harvey norman said they would match the price too.
                          Myer came back at $669.
                          Hope this helps

Hi Rob I went to bing lee today & they had the em6910 for $749 negotiable & salesman was unsure of the grinder deal until I pointed it out to him in bold writing on top of the machine & the grinder box showing a sticker with "sold with em6910"(bloody moron) :
anyway after I told him what to sell me I put one on layby
So Hardly normals & Bing lee In western sydney seem to have the deal
                            Hope this helps
