    Nick the Consumer Law in NSW is almost identical to the NZ one.
    Do yourself a favour and have a read of the NSW Fair Trading website.
    That will lead you through how to make a claim against Sunbeam.
    You are entitle to one of the three R"s:
    a) Repair
    b) Replacement
    c) Refund
    The choice of which one, is yours.

    I am trying to decide weather or not to organise a time where all dis-gruntled Sunbeam owners can bring their machines over and we can communily blow the hell out of them?

    I have had my machine in the shop twice in the last month. They have replaced the steam pump and still it refuses to texture the milk properly. Sunbeam said" it might take you a while, it is quite a complicated machine". What a load of........poo.

    I still get small bubbles all through the milk. Instead of taking it in I might just blow it up.

    Anyone have any C4? I did love this machine but i would not reccommend it to anyone now

    I have had my 6910 for three years, its been in for repair three times. Today I sucessfully returned it and obtained a full refund. In NZ we have this marvellous piece of legistration called the "Consumers guarantee Act" which states that any appliance should be;
    This means goods must be:

    fit for their normal purpose
    safe
    durable - last for a reasonable time
    have no minor defects
    acceptable in look and finish.
    When deciding whether goods are of acceptable quality, the test is whether a reasonable person would find the goods acceptable taking into account the nature of the goods, the price paid, any information on the goods or the package, anything said by the manufacturer or seller about the goods.

    My beef was that the machine had been repaired twice for leaks and the latest leaqk was huge. I took the machine back, quoted the act. The act states that in the case of a major defect I can choose between a refund or a replacement. And you guessed it, I took the refund.

    Any pumping sounds when ya try the Hot water or brew ?

    If not, then first guess in the main pump...

    The bang could have been the Diode or the coil that drives the pump.. Warranty. Call Sunbeam ASAP.

    If ya can hear teh pump running... Err Service department ASAP.

    Could be simple or could be one of the group collar screws let loose and snaps...  As they are high tensile they tend to make a bit of a noise  

    A problem with the early EM6900... Also know to happen with worn EN6910 and OVERDOSING.

    So... You have stated what is working...

    A: Steam

    But what about every thing else ?

    B: Hot water ?
    C: Manual brew with no basket ?
    D: Manual brew with pressurised basket and no coffee grinds...


    Possible issues.

    1: Control board.. I can offer to turn it into a EM6900 provide a old style board) or attempt a repair of your said board...
    2: Collar stuffed...  50/50 as to a warrant claim or you pay... Say $160 upwards.
    3: Solenoid and or pipe work damaged Say $160 ??
    4: Main pump dead... Warranty.

    As usual... Data is needed before any real attempt to provide helpful advice.

    Note: The $ are just best guesses, as from what others have posted after there experiences.. As to what they charge in WA... Who knows.

    UPDATE...........SELF DESTRUCT DAY WAS TODAY

    Does anyone have any ideas what the problem would be when as u press the brew button a loud bang was heard and then machine didnt extract????

    It still steams (I didnt check for quality) and machine powers up and heats up.

    Ive had it for 3 yrs and it hasnt skipped a beat until today :-[

    Do u think the problem will be covered under warranty?

    Another alternative, slightly more expensive but is a heat exchanger, is the Nuova Simonelli Oscar. Site sponsors Veneziano and Tonino Lamborghini Caffe both sell the NS Oscar.

    Ill see if I can find an axe in case the C4 is too hard to come by.


    Ive spent the last 3 hours researching alternative machines as Im no longer prepared to throw good money after bad in repairing the 6910. More importantly, Im FAR less inclined to have (another) fortnight or longer without a machine.

    Yes, it *was* a fantastic machine.
    I had a coffee made for me by Paul Bassett using the 6910 at the home and leisure show 4 years ago and discovered that I dont need sugar in my coffee. So I bought one and have enjoyed coffee whenever the 6910 was working correctly.
    So much so, that Ive been drinking coffee sugar free since I unpacked the 6910.

    And that was the good. Now for the bad.
    The first repair was required when the machine lost all pressure. Fortunately within the first 12 months so that was under warranty.
    BUT... 4 weeks without my machine. (repair guy got flu)

    October last year, the steam failed. 2 weeks being repaired and when I got it back, I shot produced 30ml of water on the bench. (mopped up with paper towel, wrung out into measuring cup, photo taken on phone).
    So it was straight back to the repairers ... and another week.

    This time when I got it home, every shot results in water dripping from the hot water dispenser.

    And finally today, 110 days after getting it home and 20 days after the 90day repair warranty, the steam has again gone belly up. Todays symptom is milk with the texture of an Aero Chocolate bar.

    (sorry if Im sounding a bit bitchy, but coffees my drug of choice and Im in the upper reaches of cold turkey)

    To whit, Ive had enough.

    Does anyone out there have experience of moving from a 6910 to a Silvia? (which appears to be the best alternative).

    A Mazzer, some plungers (stainless double walled variety) and later a Behmor. Just my 120000 cents worth! :-)

    Wow guys thanks for the input!!!!!

    Being located in Wait Awhile also, I must add that the  machine at the station would probably used for, on average 10-12 cups a day?

    How would this affect my decision for a machine?

    We purchase things like this through our station rec club fees, so in the long run I really dont want to blow over $1000 (including grinder) on something that is going to give us grief.

    And about the warranty issues.......Surely if everybody has had so much trouble with the reliability of the EM6910 this should be something consumer affairs should be looking into?? or should sunbeam be recalling the machines???? :-/

    But saying that Ive had mine +  em480 grinder and no trouble at all........maybe because I come from a hospitality background???

    At any rate if we do go ahead with the Sunbeam, there is no way Ill be letting on that it has been in the workplace!!

    But if we get the Sunbeam.............anything that happens from then on is on my head  


    So........what will it be then?  :-?


    Did I mention now someone from work has suggested a machine that takes PODS. >...........oh the pain of it all......

    The standard warranty is 12 mths.
    The pumps have 5 years I believe.
    After I had the steam pump die they worked out the machine was at work and thats when they told me they wouldnt do any more repairs under warranty and quoted the 3 months business.

    It is all in the warranty T&C read the manual for further info.  Only 12 months for home use and as to comercial...  Fit for purpose.. Doubt they woul cover you if ya tried to use in a busy cafe...

    Pump only is 5 years and that will also take a hit..  Dont know of any other smal comercial units that use a vibe pump, that would offer more than 1 year warranty...

    One needs to have some Common sense when looking at this stuff and if in doubt.  

    Read the fine print.. Assumptions etc are just that..

    I can not; as I am, as good as blind ;-)
