Also threaten to report them to Sunbeam (and do it anyway).
Dont do this because they did nothing wrong. Thats like threatening someone for doing something that you asked them to do.
They asked you if you wanted the 0450 instead because they didnt have the 0480 in stock and you said yes. You could have chosen to get the 0480 and waited for the stock to arrive and then go pick it up.
What you should do now is go back and say - I havent opened this 0450 but I would rather please wait until you get stock of the 0480 and Ill have that one instead.

Can anyone tell me if I should demand the 0480 grinder or is it worth the hassle?
Yes!
The 0480 is priced at $50 more for a reason.
1) Less plastic (metal body from memory).
2) Manual grind switch
3) Longer warranty on the motor (5 years not 1)
The longer warranty alone should be enough for you to get the 0480.
If you dont care about the other two points you could always ask DJs if theyll give you a 5 year extended warranty for free.
That should shake them up.

Well I went to DJs tonight and purchased the 6910. They substituted the 0450 grinder as they didnt have the 0480 in stock. (no difference from what my research tells me except a removable tray and a bit more plastic outside?)
anyway... Total price $639 with 12mth interest free on my DJ card
Can anyone tell me if I should demand the 0480 grinder or is it worth the hassle?

With a bit of haggling at Good Guys I reckon Ill get the two for around $600.
I think youll find that the grinder is something you have to actually send away a proof of purchase for to sunbeam and then theyll send you the grinder...
Or I could be very wrong and you can actually get the grinder in store as part of a point-of-sale promotion from sunbeam...
Although, generally with these sorts of promotions in retail, the manufacturer, ie. Sunbeam, will instruct the retailers not to sell the primary item (coffee machine) any lower then a certain price to ensure that the free grinder isnt a loss to them.
If you do go into a store let us know whether they can still discount the cost of the machine.
PS. the floor cost price of the 6910 is just > 600
*EDIT*** just read this "You will receive your FREE Cafe Series® Coffee Grinder EM0480 at point of purchase, so there is no better time to buy the No.1 selling manual espresso machine, the Café Series® EM6910, than during this promotional period*."
Hi all! Thanks for the replies.
Im considering the EM6910 with the matchingEM0480 conical burr grinder. Sunbeam are doing a Fathers day promo and the grinder is free ;D

(stands up) "Ahem......my name is Andrew, and I used to use a Krups (type 962)." Ahh, I feel better, now.
Actually, I still have it in the back of the cupboard. I was going to offer it in Pay-it-Forward, but thought that no-one would want it. But, if anyone does want it, just PM me to avoid any embarassment :-[
I owned a Krups for a short period (purchased new) about 10 years ago, I found even then they were a pretty poor imitation of an espresso machine, the Silvia that replaced it was a quantum leap up.

Doing my research I think a new sunbeam and grinder will do me fine, but I noticed the very obvious lack of mention of Krups
If you dont mind sharing the sunbeam machine you had in mind and then tell us what your budget is and Im sure some CSrs can give some good suggestions.
