  • Rancilio Silvia or Better?

    Hi,

I am very close to purchasing a new machine.. In fact, Im heading off to Melb soon to complete my purchase...

I was explaining the Pro & Cons of the Silvia to my partner... I was then faced with a question...

"Would it be worth getting something a little bit better than the Silvia?"

I had a quick look around and a few of the others that have caught my eye are the Domobar Piccolo and the Isomaz Zaffiro...

Does anyone have any comment on this? Silvia or something better?

I know, if I go the way of the Silvia, that it would be with me for years to come, but as my skills increase, will I still be happy with the Silvia?

Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks
    Adrian

    Re: Rancilio Silvia or Better?

Hi Virgin Blue and welcome to CS,

All are good machines but the e-61 single boiler machines can be dialled into temperature with a Scace calibration. Once that is done, they are deadly accurate and the perfect shot machine. My pick of the bunch is the Diadema Perfetta with by far the best usability and build quality.

Another lower cost option is the GEE espresso which is at Silvia cost but far more versatile. See http://coffeesnobs.com.au/YaBB.pl?num=1279089567

    Hope that helps..

    Chris

      Re: Rancilio Silvia or Better?

One year into my Silvia Im seriously considering upgrading (Ive looked at upgrades for the past few months).

Im a firm believer of always buying the best you can afford - it will last you longer This is especially so if you plan on using Silvia to make milk-based coffees.

      Dont forget the grinder!

        Re: Rancilio Silvia or Better?

        Hi Virgin Blue and welcome.
I have had my Silvia for about 3 years and it is a great machine.
But to answer your question, I would spend a little bit more and get an E61 machine as Chris has said. Very good advice.
With hindsight, this is what I would do if I was after a good single boiler machine.

        Cheers,
        Alan
